Hey Folks!
I hope we can put this issue to rest. I am in the process of buying a four wheels down vehicle. I had a Smart, literally in my hands, and the deal fell through since the farging dealer wanted to give me NOTHING for my trade-in vehicle. Scrambling for an alternative, the Fit is 600# heavier, but the benefits over the Smart outweigh (pun intended) the disadvantage.
ANYWAY, I have both a reprint out of the 2009 Fit manual, and the Honda dealer intranet page on the subject covering 2007 and 2008 models. These three years and all variations of the Fit can be towed, four wheels down, under 65mph. The auto requires you to go through a procedure (that's obviously intended to properly lube internal parts) every 8 hours of towing, and the manual is just a matter of putting it in neutral.
I'm headed out for a test drive later today, and will probably walk away with a new Fit. Oh, and I used the Kelly Blue Book website and did the "request quote" thing, and the internet sales dept of the local Honda dealer offered me a Fit without any mark-up. Not much discount, but I hope to wheedle a bunch of extras out of them.

I toke delivery of a 2009 Fit Sport Auto last week and love it! Have contacted all 3 base plate suppliers and it will be 2 months before one is available! Looks like my exiting Michigan will be held up this Year.

Fit owners: My wife and I test drove a 2009. It's got a lot of good points but there was one thing that we both noticed. The headrests on both front seats were too far forward for us. If we sat back in the seat, we couldn't put our heads upright. Neither the sales guy or us could find any adjustment for this. Have you found an adjustment? Have you noticed this as a problem?
It looks like the base model can't be equipped with cruise control. What a deal breaker! I wonder what marketing genius came up with this one?

I have a 2009 Fit Sport and have no problem with the head rests, which are designed to move forward in rear end collisions to prevent whip lash. If the headrest seems to far forward recline the seat a little. I find the seats and driving position to be excellent!

We test drove a 2009 Fit a few weeks ago and didn't have any problems with the headrests.
hogrider80: Good luck getting "extra's" out of the dealer. They are selling Fits at sticker price around here....and they don't even come with floor mats.

Quote: They are selling Fits at sticker price around here....and they don't even come with floor mats. The Fit we drove was marked up $4k from MSRP. If I get one, it will be after supply and demand become more balanced.

Our plan exactly.......I'm hoping the hype dies down by next spring or summer. The introduction of more quality small cars by other manufacturers will help, offering some competition.

Good luck! The 08 Fit has been selling at or near MSRP for the last year and is now completely sold out. You do not have to pay above MSRP for the 09 as many dealers are not marking up. But remember, Honda does not give the dealer much of a markup, less than $600. If you wait until spring/summer you may face a sold out 09 and and pay more for an 2010. Maybe you can get the $75 mats thrown in! Check the fit/freak forum for what people are actually paying around the country, /www.fitfreak.net/forums/
Fit's worthy competition, Yaris, Versa, Scion, equipped with options that Fit includes as standard, are priced very close.

Well, with Honda hoping to make twice as many 09's as 08's maybe there will be more to go around.....especially if the economy (and stock market) continue to tank.
And if gas prices continue to fall America's seemingly never-ending love affair with large SUV's and pickup trucks should rekindle soon further reducing the demand for small cars.

ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL ON THE 2009 FIT HONDA DOES ALLOW YOU TO TOW ON ALL FOUR. I DON'T HAVE THE MANUAL WITH ME BUT YOU MUST PUT IT IN DRIVE THEN IN NEUTRAL TO TOW.
