I have a new Carrier 13.5 AC unit on my PUP. I would like to run the AC when BD. I do not need to run other things while running the AC. I have read some posts that say the Yamaha 2400 will run the AC and some that say the Yamaha 2400 won't run the Carrier AC.
The folks at Wisesales say the Yamaha was built for rv use and it should be fine. Yamaha is a little smaller and a lot lighter 70lbs it costs $1139. The Honda is only a 5 inches longer, 2 inches winder and 4 inches taller, but weighs 135 lbs. it costs $1699. The Honda should be quieter, it has a larger tank so the run time is longer and has an electric start.
Any recommendations?
Thanks.

I like the Honda Myself 600 more watt's I run the hole Motor Home on it and that's on eco.mode.I like that and the elec.start is also a great idea plus more fuel for less filling it seem's good on gas and the weight is more but I think a better over all unit MHO...well worth it I did look at both when I bought mine.3 years ago and nothing but gas and oil changes I also have syn.oil since break in 3rd change...Bushman

If you got the money the honda will give you power to spare. With the yamaha if you have the A/C on that will be about it.I'm kinda cheap so I would get the yamaha and budget out the power.

... and now from someone who owns a Yamaha EF2400iS...
Here's the testing I've done: Link.
I've talked with a LOT of people who've read my article, bought one themselves, successfully ran their own A/C unit, and thanked me for the info.
To date, I've only talked with one person that had real issues running his A/C. As it turns out, he had a 15,000 BTU A/C unit. Too big I thought. He was able to run it, but when it cycled, it overloaded the generator and it dropped out. He'll need a much larger generator, likely well over 3KW.
I've been able to easily run my 13,500 BTU A/C unit, my converter/charger, lights, TV, stereo, and refrigerator, with power to spare.
FWIW, the Yamaha EF2400iS uses the same sized motor as the 2800 Watt, and 3000 Watt Yamaha generators. It also has been tested to carry a 3000 Watt surge (25 Amps for 10 seconds according to Hayes Equipment).
It's half the weight of a quiet series 3000 Watt Honda or Yamaha. It's less expensive.
I don't know why you'd think the Honda would be quieter. At full load, the Yamaha is rated at 58 dB. Mine runs at about 2/3rds throttle (subjective ear measurement) running everything in my camper, except the water heater and microwave. So mine is somewhere around 55-56 dB??? Bottom line, it's so quiet, I can't hear it from inside the camper, and barely from the opposite side of the camper when outside.
Have you picked up a 3000 Watt generator? If you decide a 2400 isn't enough, then I would recommend getting 2 Honda 2KWs and a parallel cable. At least your back will thank you.

Thanks, I'm leaning toward the Honda eu 3000. I'm sure it will run the AC. I'm concerned about running my Carrier 13.5 AC. I have seen other posts that say the Yamaha 2400 won't run the Carrier.

Just went through this today. The 2400 would NOT run my friends new Carrier 13.5. He is selling the 2400 and getting a Yamaha 3000 w/boost.

Why the Yamaha 3000 with boost instead of Honda EU 3000?

I hvae the Yamaha 3000/boost. I liked the Boost feature and, to be quite honest, I liked the looks better than the square Honda. I am sure I would have liked the Honda just as well.

I own a Yamaha 2800i. It has no problem running a 13.5 AC unit and only weighs in at 65 lbs.
