Dh and I have been RVing here and there since last year. We really enjoy it and almost hate to come back home (but work calls). I've been reading about good rv manners such as not leaving porch lights on all night, etc. But I've also read that you shouldn't run your generator all night. Is that true? And what about the air conditioner. I'm a 50 year old woman starting through the change of life and I need to be cold....LOL....ladies, are you with me on this? *smile* Just wondering if I've been having "bad manners". What's the proper thing to do especially when they say at the parks quiet time begins at 10pm. Does that mean you can't run anything on your rv? Thanks.

If your hooked up, run the AC and don't worry about it. If you are not and need to run a generator its going to depend on where you are and what the rules are. Some of the quiet source gens are almost as quiet as an AC compressor and probably wouldn't cause any issues. Some other gens are loud enough to wake the dead. Location and the rules will dictate if you can run your generator for AC if you have no hookups.

We have our a/c on all night. As a matter of fact, so does everyone else around us and we don't hear it at all. I understand the needing to be cold at times----I haven't experienced that yet, but I know it's a matter of time before I do!! I don't know anything about generators, but from what I have read here, it's based on campground rules. You might want to talk to the CG you are going to and ask them about generators. Depending where you are, it might be cooler outside than it is in the camper. Our nights are starting to go down into the low 60's, high 50's and sleeping with the windows open!

Aside from the noise, the general rule is that running the generator while asleep is more of a safety issue, Carbon Monoxide ( a by product of the combustion in the generator engine ) is a deadly gas and, though you might have a detector, being asleep is normally not a good idea - people have died doing this. Unless you have really good ventilation and exhaust gas routing well clear of your living area - you might want to reconsider, or, at least, be well aware of the possibilities.
Running just the A/C ( hooked up to shore power ) has never been a problem, that I know of - they are pretty quite.

Just a thought - take care

Oh, DW is there with you - I spend most of the night trying to get warm!!

I've not read or heard of people complaining about others running their A/C at night. The problem is running a loud generator all night (even all day, depending on the situation).

You go right ahead and run your a/c and let the porch light on if you want

Are you dry camping? If not, do what you please, but keep your dog from barking, scoop the poop and turn your music down.

If you read on here that the porch light bothers some then they need to quit camping. It is the scare lights that do not need to be on...let the porch light shine. As to the generator, I believe it must be off at quiet time unless you are boon docking out in the sticks.

We should retitle this thread "menopause"! Wow, until this year I would not have understood. I used to be this meek little lady who was always cold. I had gloves at the ready year round. Always wore jeans in the summer unless it was 100 degrees out. Well that changed this spring and I've gotta have a fan in addition to the a/c. WOW! Never in my wildest imagination would I have dreamed this part of my life up!

When we camp, it's DH & me mostly. Occasionally step-daughter (16) comes, though not necessarily her choice
