My wife and I have been looking at the exact same 5ers and we like the coachmen better but we aren't sure if your pickup can handle it. Just curious of the ones you have looked at what kind of price are they asking for them? I just got a price yesterday from one dealer of 29,000 and another of 25,000 for the coachmen. The rockwood ran around 29,000 to 30,000

Good point. I wouldn't tow mine with a Tacoma.
amxpress - I presume you are thinking about a bigger truck too? Tacoma PreRunner long bed has max towing capacity of 6500# and a low payload. Certainly not enough for the Chapparal!

Personal Opinion.
My Wildcat has been full of problems, some small and some large. We bought it used at 1.5 years, so the previous owner could be part of problem.
However, we are trailer shopping again and Forest River is not on the list.

I have a Coachman, the only 5er i have owned, I will not buy another. Storage doors hinge screws pulling out, slides sticking, valances falling down. And worst of all a horrible dealer prep job by the local dealer, he knew my situation so he knew i could not take it back to him after i picked it up. Like most dealers they dont care after you gave them the money.

I owned two Coachmen Somerset's, an 02' and an 04' for a period of almost 5 yrs. Never had the first problem out of either one of them, we liked the Coachmen quite a bit, just got a deal "I couldn't refuse" on sig 5er and traded the Coachmen, anyone who buy's my old Coachmen is going to get ONE HECK of a GREAT 5th wheel. I guarentee it.

Our first RV was a 2005 Coachman Capri TT. We looked at them literally side-by-side with a similar sized and priced Rockwood TT. It was nice to be able to look at both on the same lot. Though both were entry level units, the Coachman won hands down in finish, quality, and detail. Good luck with your search.

We bought our 30' Forest River Sierra in Mar. of 2000. Have had no major problems and very few minor ones. Except for tires we have been very happy with it. Which ever unit you get, don't settle for any thing less than 16" rims and Michelin XPS rib's. I speak from the experience of four blowouts.

Remembet two things:
1. I carry a gun, because a cop is too heavy.
2. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

I am also looking at Forest River and Coachman (Class A). There is a floor plan in the Mirada that we like, but Forest River looks like it is much better quality. this is a big bummer for us b/c the floor plan in the mirada 355 ts is exactly what we need for our business.

ZERO problems with my Coachmen. Fit and finish was much better than most.
Check the bottom side also and compare. Frame and overall build quality starts at the frame.

Having owned both brands (coachmen TT and Forest River 5th wheel) I have to say that the Forst Rivers seems to be of better quality. Although we never had any problems with the Coachmen I do notice a difference in the cabinet doors and drawers as the Forest River uses solid wood and the outter walls, closet and bathroom walls seem to be more solid. To be honest though I don't think you can go wrong with either brand.
