Our first TT was a Coachman Catalina, the quality of the cabinets and other interior stuff was far better than anything else we saw in that price range.
But around the front window it did develop a leak and before I caught it, it had rotted out the whole front interior wall. It was still under warranty but I traded it in and YES the dealership knew it and was going to fix it before passing it along.
Other than that we loved it, I still think it was one of the best looking decor I’ve ever seen.
With all of that being said, I wouldn't hesitate on buying another. We just didn't want the down time it was going to take to fix it.
We have had our Coachmen Chapparal for almost 5 years. I have pulled it around a fair amount, and just haven't had any problems with it. The biigest thing I have had is appliance recalls. Can't really blame that on Coachmen. All were repaired at no cost. Approaching the 5 year mark this year, I had the wheel bearings repacked, put a new set of Maxxis tires on it, and had to do some chalking on the roof this spring. It was just time to renew some of the chalking. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Coachmen
We have a 2 year old Rockwood and other than a couple small corrected issues - has been great. Not sure that it is better or worse but we are happy. We were planning to buy a larger unit but glad we did not. We have pulled it for 20k like a charm.
When we bought our new 5th wheel in March, we had narrowed our choices down to a Coachmen Chapparal lite 268RLE or a Rockwood 8265S. Both units were almost the same price. We really liked the Chapparal lite but it was a little heavier than the Rockwood and we were going to be towing it with a 1/2 ton pickup. We ended up with the Rockwood and really like it's floor plan too. Plus the Rockwood dealer was much easier to work with.
