You don't have to scale the box fan. All it takes is sliding the BAR code over the scanner.

Some of the more annoying registers out here weigh what you place into the bags, that is where the second scale is. For large items you have to press an OK button to skip bagging the item.

My pet peeve is the stores that enable the voice on the self checkout. That'll drive you bonkers when 4 are going at a time!

I was going to move to TN until my daughter told me that "the family tree in TN has no branches."

I always use self check out when available, and, I will not buy fuel if it is not "pay at the pump". So there!

Look at it this way:

If you use the self checkout line and the service is slow and lacking quality, you only have yourself to blame... If the service is good and speedy, you can take the credit for it....

Once, I actually got PAID for using a self service checkout.

The first time I tried out one of the new larger order self service checkout at a grocery/department store, the machine kept telling me to move the scanned item(s) further down the belt. I was having to retrieve items, scan, and take them to the end of the counter - too much like work. Then there was a problem with the machine during the transaction. I had to wait about 5 minutes or so while employees worked to get it fixed. The manager on duty surprised me by giving me a $10 gift certificate for being patient.

I used one of the larger order self service checkouts on another occasion and again kept being told by the computer to move the items to the end of the belt. Decided that's too much to be asked to do without getting paid for it so I won't use those checkouts again.

I only use self serve checkouts when I'm in a hurry and only have a few items.

Got tired of standing behind fat women in pink stretch pants would be my guess.

That reminds me of a story I heard about a fat lady pushing a shopping cart, and a little boy and his grandmother was behind her. Just as she started to move; her cell phone went off and the little boy said," look out grandmaw she's backing up.

If you go to the Home Depot there's no choice there all self checkouts.

Which is why I go to ACE Hardware. I will not check myself out, nor will I do my own dentistry.

People doing restocking know where I was when I got fed up, because there is where what I was going to buy is found, ready to be restocked.

I will use self-checkout at every possible oppertunity (it's THE reason I shop for groceries where I do)--it guarantees the IQ of the register operator is greatly higher than the marginally-sentient stoners usually on checkout. I can self-scan checkout a full carriage in the time it takes a regulat cashier to do half a cart...and I'm guaranteed to not have things like bread bagged under canned goods, or highly-toxic wasp killer in the same bag as fresh produce.

I'm with you. Of course, we can read and follow directions, either one of which is why so many persons have problems with the self-checkouts. I mean how hard is scan, touch, place in bag, scan, touch, place in bag?
