For those who winterize by blowing the lines clear of water, what kind of adapter do you use on the city water inlet and how much PSI do you use?

made my own from a iron pipe reducer and a valve stem , i set the compresser at 40 lbs, i have a connector that i can put on the air hose it hooks to the stem and clips on and air will run threw all the time its clipped on the stem, first i drain everything then close the drains , open a faucet befor putting it on,i do each faucet till the waters gone when im done i let it blow air threw all the lines with all the faucets open for awhile to dry them out more then reopen the drains and its done add antifreeze to drain traps.

I bought my adapter from CW, but think that I have seen them at Walmart also. It is a plastic thing that screws into the inlet with a valve stem on the other end. You can even use a regular tire pump. I usually run the pressure at 20 pounds to keep the "splash" to a minimum out of the faucets. Never run more than 40 pounds or you might blow a connection.

Don't forget to work the hot water heater bypass valve a couple of times, too. ( voice of experience )

Made an adapter that goes from the city water hose connection to the air compressor quick disconnect using parts bought at Home Depot. I keep the pressure under 40 lbs and cycle through all the faucets being sure to include the john. Also also have a couple of low point drain that I include in the valves that I open. Good idea on the water heater bypass Maverick1023!

Yep - bought mine at Walmart for a couple bucks. I think mine was a CAMCO product. Cheap but effective.

I went to the hardware store and purchased a brass hose coupling and a quick connect compressor fitting. I power up my compressor and connect the hose. I don't have to sit there and hold the air to the plastic connector. I use the same fitting to blow out my sprinklers each fall.

I run the whole system at 45 pounds and run it through the pressure reducer just like I do when hooked up to water.

It works for me. Thanks for the tip about the heater bypass valves. I haven't done this but I will now.

By "working the hot water bypass valve", do you mean I should allow some air to flow through the water heater, while the system is under pressure?

I open my bypass so no air is going threw the hot water heater. After im done i pull the plug on the hot water heater to make sure all water is out from the tank.Im not sure if blowing air threw the tank will get rid of all the water so i take the few minutes to drain it properly.
