I had a catastrophic blowout of a GY Marathon tire last week. Tires have about 3000 miles & are on a 2005 Grand Surveyor 240BH. Before I left home I made sure the tires had 50 psi. The blowout bent the metal behind the passenger side rear tire. Does anyone know where/how to get replacment metal? My local TT dealer is trying to get the info from Forest River but they are not very responsive. Any info would be appreciated!

Welcome to the GY Marathon blow out club. It only took me five ruined marathon tires to realize that these tires were bad news for me. But as to you question, you will have to manufacturer your own part if the factory is not responsive. Twice, I have taken my fiver to the the Carriage factory in Indiana to have my wheel wells repaired after Marathon failures. If you can't get the part or don't believe you could make a jury rig for the repair you might try taking it to an auto body shop and see if they could make your rig look pretty again.

Did you take the tire to a Goodyear dealer. They will probably pay for the damage as well as replace the tire.

My question is, have they issued a recall on these GY Marathons yet?? I have an 08' Jayco Eagle and it has these GY Marathons on it and this is worrying me.

As far as I know, there are no recalls on the Goodyear Marathons. I got a new tire at a Goodyear dealer in Pauley's Island, SC but they wouldn't cover the tire cost and said they didn't know of any recalls.

I just mailed a letter to the Goodyear corporate office.

I'm going to try to contact Forest River about repair parts.

Thanks for all replies.

Was the replacement also a Marathon?

It's interesting that when I was considering Marathons, I couldn't find really any negatives on them, so I bought one for a spare- Kept it for 3 months until Keystone initiated their recall on Milestar tires. It was decision time, either stay at 15" and get Marathons all around, or bite the bullet and upgrade to 16" and XPS Ribs. Took the plunge, bought new 16" aluminum wheels and XPS Ribs all around, had to raise the trailer 1.5" and retro a slide mechanism, but in the end, I have decided that it was worth it.

So, is your replacement also a Marathon?

My replacement was a Carlisle. I'll use it for the spare. I don't know if that's any better or not. I think I'm going to eventually upgrade to a D load tire.

I am not defending Goodyear but at 50 #'s you are running underinflated.
