I am able to connect my laptop to my 32' LCD TV by using an S-video cable. I would like to display slide shows from the laptop to the tv.
How is the best way to adjust the resolution so that the picture fits on the screen of the tv. The jpegs on my laptop are 1600 x 1200 pixels. When I switch the display to the tv screen they are too big. I adjusted the resolution down on the laptop to get a better picture fit but have some horizontal distortion. Vertical looks ok.
Hope I don't have to resize the jpeg files as I have over 11,000 photos.

I use a program called Memories on TV. Does it all for you and adds effects and music. Works great

Try setting the laptop to 1024x768 or 800x600. The best way would be to connect the tv to the laptop with the laptops video cable vs a svideo connector.

Forget the s-video connection, go with DVI/HDMI, or VGA connection. Then set the resolution to the LCD's native settings for the clearest picture....

once you are on the vga or hdmi input display use the TV menus and that display to ASPECT or 1:1, this should give a pixel to pixel image
if you have your ws TV, set to everything on wide, it will stretch the picture to fill the screen this is where your distortion is coming from
your picture from your digital camera are NOT 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio, they cannot be properly displayed that way. they need to be displayed as a 4:3 image in the middle of screen
now on your PC set the pc to a res the same as OR lower than the max res of your TV,
example my 720P tv is 1368*720 and the laptop is 1024 * 800 and the photo software is set for fit to screen

You shouldn't have to resize your photos. Assuming you have Windows XP on your laptop: attach the s-video cable, go to control panel->display. See if you have two icons for monitors, one labeled 1 and the other 2. If so, 2 will represent the TV. Click it and check the box for "extend my windows desktop to this monitor". You should be able to set it's resolution independently of the laptop's LCD. Check your TV's manual to see what resolutions it supports. If your pictures are 1600x1200 that is 4/3 ratio like a normal TV. If your LCD is a wide screen, your going to have black bars on the sides of the picture, because a wide screen is 16/9 format. What software are you using show the slide shows?
