Real world weights...

We weighed the truck and camper in my signature. The truck first with a full tank of fuel and my wife behind the wheel=

Front: 4680#
Rear: 3220#

Plus me @ 210# = 8110#

Next we weighed the camper with my wife behind the wheel ready to camp full of water, propane, generator, etc.=

Front: 4800#
Rear: 6180#

Plus me @ 210# = a grand total of 11,190#

The truck handles this weight VERY well with just the stock suspension. The Apex 8 is little heavier than my original estimate of 2915# but, not by too much...

The rest of the post in the link above discusses Outfitter weight vs what I actually had on the scale. Outfitter was very close...

Good luck with your shopping

Over three thousand pounds in luggage, wow, do you leave any thing behind? Sorry was rushing reading and just realized thats your total weight from bare truck to loaded camper. My bad!

As far as price goes the Hallmark was cheaper with more options.

How are you getting that?
Base price: Apex 8 web site $18995 Ute email from Matt $26900
Loaded with options: Apex 8 $26305 Ute $29660

Hallmark seems to have some flexibility with their price. Maybe it wasn't a few thousand dollars (was just doing simple math in my head) but cheaper with the options i need.

What's up with this? The incident I referenced happened in an open thread on RV.net and is public knowledge.

The basement was the seller for us when we were pop-up camper shopping. We really like the capability of the 4 season use. Hallmark I think has the new nicer wall design and roof.

So if you have a basement, all the tanks are insulated?? or just the fresh water.

Generally in a basement camper all tanks are insulated and in many the basement is heated as well.

Outfitter is the only pop-up TC maker to offer both.

OK I haven't crunched the numbers totally yet but here is what i am coming up with.

Fully Self Contained Pop Up (generally 8.5 ft)

Outfitter I am looking at just over $20k
Hallmark is just above that
Litecraft is just coming in below $20k

I was initially wrong about the Hallmark being cheaper.

The difference between LiteCraft and Hallmark is around $7k

All have their pros and cons. Have yet to make up my mind.

Lite-Craft report

Went and visited Lite-Craft yesterday. I've owned 2 Lite-Craft Campers and have found 2 others for friends. This was the first time i got to spec out a new one.

Overall fit and finish - Just as good as outfitter however, Outfitter has a much nicer countertop but cabinet construction looked about the same.

The camper i spec'ed out is an 8.5 fully self contained. I added some custom options and changed a few items like
- Excalibur Heater
- 2 6V batteries
- 30lb propane
- Remove the lip btwn the rear door and floor for easier cleaning.
- a few other little things

To reduce the risk of freezing the black/gray water the heater will run it's ducts around the black/gray water tank.

To lower and move forward the COG I asked to have the batteries installed next to the 30 gal fresh water tank on the floor all the way in front of the camper. The batteries will be vented off the side and blocked off from the rest of the camper

So the Fresh water, propane tank and batteries are all in the front end of the Camper. The Fridge is really the only significant heavy item at the rear of the camper.

Litecraft has a wooden frame and aluminum roof. Quoted weight was 1800lbs.

All three manufactures have their pros and cons. Again, i am very fortunate to have the ability to visit all three to make a desision. I am a few months out to fully commiting so i'm sure my views will change as i let it all soak in.

Right now Lite-Craft is in the lead. Maybe i'm biased bc i've owned them before.

Hallmark has the best looking camper
Outfitter has a basement
Lite-Craft a little more bang for ya buck.

All three have great customer service. At Lite-Craft it depends on the day sometimes.

Wheelin and dealin - LiteCraft and Hallmark
Professionism - Outfitter
Overall Image - Outfitter

OK I'm done for now. Time to actually do some work.
