Well, it's happening again. Last winter I had a terrible time getting my Honda 2000 to start, this summer it started great. Now it's getting cold out side it will not start again. I loaned it to a friend and he called me from the mountains and asked if there was a trick to starting the Gen. He could not get it stated. His FIL blew up his new Home depot Gen so they needed mine and it would not start. And one have any idea on this? I put in a new plug. I thinking maybe low spark, choke not closing, not thinking its the oil gage, when you get it running it does run great. Just so darn hard to start. I have used starter fluid but do not like using it for the walls of the piston get washed down and it can scar the walls. I am going to take it in as soon as he gets back, just wish I knew what is wrong with it.

How old is the gas? A friend had that problem, replaced the gas and was good to go. Do you use Staybil? May need to clean the carburator or clean or replace the nozzel. If you've already checked the plug, that's all I can think of.

How about the ignition switch? Try making sure it's turned all the way ON, as far as it will go.

I have an older Honda that has a sediment bowl in the fuel line. Found out about the sediment bowl the hard way when it took me over an hour to get the generator started when I checked it a couple days before a trip. Every once in a while it won't start and I have to clean the sediment bowl. I look for this as the first fix when it will not start. This has been the only reason it hasn't started except the time I forgot to flip on the run switch. I cleaned the sediment bowl that time too before I noticed the switch was off. I always use fuel preservative. It always starts on the first or second pull since I have used it.

One thing, I didn't mention. The tank was almost empty, so he went to the station and got fresh gas the day before he left for hunting. I am going to try it when he comes home from hunting and if it doesn't start, I'll have my SIL take it to his shop and have the mechanic go through it for me.

Had that problem once. I found out I had it in the eco mode. Put it in the run mode and they started right up.

Obvious question: Is it full of oil? It won't start if the oil level is low.

wind river, I have checked that about three times to make sure, it will start with starter fluid but don't think I should have to use that to start it ever.

I know this isn't the problem but a funny story has to be told.
I was in Home Depot one day browsing the rental section. A HD employee was trying to start a Honda 2000 without success. After watching about 15 or 20 pulls on the starter rope, a crowd gathered.
I casually asked if the switch had to be on to start. He turned the seitch and it started at once. I just walked away.....

Ditto what Ben said. Neither of mine like to be started on the economy mode when cold. They don't like to run with the tank vent closed either. Later! Frank
