The idea on the hospitals in arizona that does the contracts without a travel company is a good idea.
I will say this much about travel nursing. You should at least be making 36 an hour don't let a company "con" you into 24 an hour or whatever. You can do better....also Negotiate. Say I dont' wanna move to ____ state unless i get 39 an hour. Etc. Try it you might get it.
I've been a travel RN for 5 years. Get your health insurance privately, mine is through blue cross/shield. That way if you need to take say 1, 2, or 3 months off (burned out), you can do it! IF you take a company's health insurance you can not be more than 23 days off from work.
Also hire on at more agencies. Most experianced "rent a Nurses" have 2-4 agencys they are hired at. Some citys contract certain ones, others don't. Gives you more flexibility.
Just don't let company's promise you a "bonus" or whatever, make sure it is in writing. They will lie thier teeth off. Also get as much money as you can tax free. You will make more cash at the end of the year with less taxes.
She works for intellistaff... Our MH payments are 600, insurance 120, rv space 400. She gets 2200 a month tax free. This all monthly. So as you can see. it does. Plus she will make 30 an hour so I am, officially retired after supporting us the first 25 years of marriage!!! lol Her words not mine
if once you dont suuuceedd

If once you donttt successs
If once you dont succeed try tryyyy
If once you dont' succedd
Ok if once you dont succeed just freaking DO IT!!!!!!!!!!
Just our experience. My wife is a travel nurse and will NOT work for a company. She works when she wants, where she wants, under contract with hospitals. We have never been to a city that did not have a hospital that did not hire nurses under contract. All do.
She gets from 29.00 to 38.00 per hour and works from 24 to 36 hours per week. She sets her own schedule, within their shifts, and get full bennies if she works over 30 hours per week.
Do not leet these travel companies take advantage of you. There is plenty of good work out here for your life, not theirs.

Ummm.....I presume the 2200 a month is a typo. Not trying to relay my pay scale or anything, but I make WAY more than that after taxes right here at home. Either that or she does not work many hours a week. Not trying to belittle your wife's pay, I'm just trying to understand if we are on the same page.

I would not work for 24 dollars an hour with all the years nursing experience I have. I understand (by what a traveler told me) that even nurses with 1 year experience, makes the same thing as a nurse with many years nursing in travel nursing. It's not the years experience, but the location you work. Unlike regular staff nurses that make more the longer you are an RN. Since I've been an RN for 14 years, I'd have to be careful not to take travel jobs that are less than what I make now.

Not a typo...She make 30 dollars per hour working 36 hr per week (4300 per month). On top of that she takes home tax free $2200.00 per month housing stipend. We are happy so i suppose that is all that matters!! lol
Also she recieves paid healthcare, very good 401 package. Plus the benefit of seeing the country on their dime (They pay milage as well as meal and hotel allowance, which we just take the cash value)

Oh, now THAT makes more sense!!! I misunderstood you! Yes, 4300 a month plus the 2200 housing stipend is really great indeed. I am so sorry I misunderstood you. You SHOULD be happy! I thought you just meant 2200 total.
In st louis i make 36 an hour but I'm only taxed on 8 dollars an hour. I get my own place a couple of nights a week (i'm 200 miles away so i stay in a motel 2 nights a week)
I clear 1280 a week, or 5120 a month. The big advantage is when you turn in your taxes on a single wage earner your in a 15% bracket.
Consider as much tax free "Per-Diem" money as you can get.
Do not work for less than 35 an hour UNLESS maybe your getting Rent paid. However even then i wouldnt' work for less than 30.
