How can anyone call this a win? my fees goes from $20 every two years to $125 every two years! So, instead of the wacko's getting $19 from me, they now get $30! Plus, we the people who are paying these fees don't get to choose who determines how the money is spent!

Any one who thinks that this is a good deal for us off roaders are more than welcome to pay my fees for me! This bill won't protect our interests at all. We will still loose in the end!

Actually, our fees increase from $25 every two years to $50 every two years.

This fee increase isn't something everyone is going to be excited about but we worked to bring it down from the $75-$100 that has been pushed for by the Enviro side. Believe me when I say there was going to be an increase, it was just getting to something more reasonable. (If the registration had been getting a cost-of-living increase, it would have been over the $50)

Out of the existing $25 we have been paying, is broken down as follows:

$8 to the OHMVR Trust Fund
$7 to DMV
$6 to CHP
$4 to Counties

The new increase will be broken down as follows:

$33 to OHMVR Trust Fund (all the $25 goes directly to the Fund)
$7 to DMV
$6 to CHP
$4 to Counties

This increase will help our program to run effectively. The Commission which has always had control over the Division (and money), has been made into an advisory commission. The money in the past that was locked up to be only spent in ways of Restoration/Conservation/Enforcement is changing too. This new increase will also increase the amounts for grants from the past of about $18M to $22-25M with 50% going to the newly created Operations/Maint. Bucket. Currently we were lucky if we get more than $5.5M only to have about $350K to go into the ground.

Hopefully my explanation will give a better understanding of the increase.

Thanks for the breakdown. I still don't like the change! I doubt that much of that $25 will end up going to our sport. Unless it is mandated that at least half of the board come from active OHV members, there will be funds going out incorrectly.

I would love to be proved wrong, but without some ability of people paying in to oversee the spending, I see bigger troubles. I will bet that the Green's will find ways to take our money from us. There is nothing in the government that is spent for what it is collected for.

LOL! I don't know about riding quads, but I have seen CHP enforcing laws up in PiPi Valley area. I also know that our county sheriff's office has 2 quads, 2 Dodge 4x4 trucks and 4 deputies that are assigned to our 2 ohv parks.

If the money finally goes where it needs to do some good its well spent. If it had gone up over $100 there would have been some kind of backlash. Given the amount of the maint/oper funding increase I can imagine we will be seeing more, better marked, better maintained trails in OHV parks in the near future.

This seems like a compromise on BS issues and a major victory on how the agency will be managed and monies spent.

Thanks for the details and your hard work famof4.
