Atlanta Motor Speedway – Hampton, GA – 10/26/2007 thru 10/29/2007
• Participants: Kim, Dave, Rob, Jen, Ray, Clint, Dale
• Campground Rating: n/a (out of 5)
• Rating reasons / About the campground: n/a
• Campsite number: We stayed on some private property (not associated with ATL speedway) immediately south of the "Orange Free Parking" lot. We dropped the camper off on Wednesday and it cost $60. You had to have the camper off the lot by 12 noon on Monday, so it was pretty reasonable. Rob's camper was on site 691 in the infield
• About our trip: Kim, Jen, and I made it down to the speedway Friday afternoon. Rob, Ray, Clint, and Dale were already there. We had Italian Sausages for dinner. Kim left after dinner because Ashley had a football game to cheer for early Saturday morning. I met them for breakfast at Chick-Fil-A then we went to the game. This was there homecoming game. During halftime, the cheerleaders gave the players footballs and the girls got flowers in return.
I could tell the boys really had a great time. We even had one girl who was so afraid of getting cooties that she started crying! Even the coaches got involved. Coach Dwayne:
We arrived back at the track with 5 laps to go of the truck race with just enough time for Kim to collect her winnings from the pool. Yeah, Kim! Saturday night, Dale made everyone the most awesome ribs.
The only complaint to be heard was: "Ohhh…I am so full." While we ate we were able to see the Georgia Dawgs stomp all over the Gators. It don't get any better than that! Later, we were lucky enough to have some people set up a karaoke stand two campers away from us (luck is a relative term). We did have some fun though (Kim, Jen, and Dale more so than others).
Kim and Jen walking the dog:
Race day: I might have forgotten that I put my gum on one of the platform posts - sorry Rob! I have never seen a helicopter pulling a banner. That was a first. The race started with a flyover from a B-52. After the race was over on Sunday, we had a delicious dinner of taco soup the helped clean up. We ended up leaving about an hour after the race ended. It took about 20 minutes to get onto Tara Blvd but once there it was smooth sailing all the way home.
A couple of miscellaneous pix:
On a side note, I've come to the conclusion that I'm not much of a race fan but I will definitely do this again. It was a lot of fun. Dave.
