9%!?!?!?!?

Is that all?

I have been up and down 14% grades, just take your time. If you have an auto, just put er down a gear or two or four, and let her creep. My dad went to Shelter Cove, CA, and he actually put his '01 Chevy DuraMax Allison 4X4 into low range 4x4 to keep the speed down.

If you are in first gear, on the brakes, and still burn the brakes, let us know! If not, learn to down shift!

We drove the same route only West to East. We left Lone Pine and stopped often .......to enjoy the magnificant scenery....Just take it slow....I used the Engine Brake on all the down hills and didn't have any problems.
I should have suspected something was up when the first truck we met had a driver who was making signals like we were maybe crazy to be going where we were headed.
The scariest part was when we met the first TANDEM FULLY LOADED HAY TRUCK. I wish my DW could have caught a photo of the driver of the first one. Met him on a blind 90* curve and I don't know who was most surprised. We were only going about twelve MPH and quickly slowed to crawl mode. He was going faster than me but slowed quickly to smoking tires. Almost stopped but I suspect he probably had a bad feeling in his pants.
The second tandem was on a flat spot and just waved as he went by.

It was a beautiful ride and I would not hesitate to do it again.

Just remember...The Tortise won the race by going slow and steady.

Happy Trails

Re: If you choose, you can stay on the Beartooth Highway and it will lead you into Cooke City and Silver Gate just outside of Yellowstone. Wonderful sights all along the way. The Beartooth closes mid-October because of snow in the Pass and opens again in the spring. Red Lodge has some great restaurants too!

Well, we are from Wisconsin. Took our first trip out West....same route with a new MH. Not a lot of driving experience. My husband still thinks his name is "Slow Down Dammit"

My mapping software tried routing me into Telluride CO on the back road. I thought better of it and went the long way. Well while we were there a family in a Jeep Cherokee slide off this goat path killing two. They were locals that had been on this "road". I use them but I don't trust them GPSs'
