But the New 330 has old maps and they will not upgrade them Garmin said thats why they are so cheap they are trying to blow them out for the new stuff. but you might have a point if you do not go to Canada and you spend 70 dollars for new maps thats still a deal! The 330 has Canada now but the upgrade is to big for the memory of the 330 so you can only put USback in which is fine for most people

I've had my 330 for about 22 months now and have been happy with its performance and features. I did have the power cord to the windshield mount fray and it stopped charging my unit. I replaced it with a "genuine" Garmin window mount from Amazon. Now it works on the windshield mount, but not off it. I searched the internet and it sounds like it is most likely the battery. I e-mailed Garmin and they would be happy to replace the battery for a flat repair fee of $225! Since the repair fee and +/- $75 will get me a new unit, I will most likely just use it while traveling in our motorhome and buy a new one for our family cars.

With the Garmin 330, say for example you are parked/camped in Memphis, Tn. ----You want to plan a trip from Nashville TN, to Savannah, Ga---can you input this information and simulate the trip from Nashville to Savannah while you are still physically in Memphis?

Yes..I do this all the time (it's not like I don't have a life or anything like that but I do like to armchair travel.)

First, turn on the unit and set the GPS mode to OFF (tool box - System - GPS Mode - GPS Off).

Then pick the place you want to start from by touching "Where To?"; then pick your starting point by selecting where ever you want to start from by using the normal ways you find a point to go to...I usually use the "Browse Maps". When you find your starting point, press "Show Map" at the bottom of the screen, then "Set Loc". Now the GPS thinks your current location is the place you just selected. Then you can plan a trip from that new location.

When you turn the GPS off and back on, then the GPS mode is set to NORMAL again.

I use this not just for planning trips from different points, but if I am going someplace, I will set the location to that place then find restaurants, browse maps of the local area, and generally get oriented to where we will be going.

Hope this helps and is not too long. Feel free to PM if you want further info that may be too detailed for the forum.

RobtS, Thanks for the heads up. My wife picked up a 330 this am for $128. Works like a charm. Don't think you can beat it for the price. Thanks again, Harry

Just picked mine up at Walmart this morning - $128 - best price I have seen anywhere, even cheaper than refurbished units. BTW the one I was able to get has the newest version 8 mapping software. If you download the updating software from the Garmin site it WILL update the unit software. I checked, mine is up to date.

I got one this morning also for $128 and have a question for ya. The first load of them they had a the floor where in clear packaging that could be hung from pegs. When that shipment ran out they restocked with ones in square boxes that looked like a newer version. I assumed they were getting rid of the older ones first so I put the clear package one back and grabbed the box. Which one did you get????? Wonder if there really was a difference?? The one in the box listed it accepts a SD card for memory and the other did not mention this. Did all 330's have a slot for the SD card?

Make the step up to C340....you get voice and don't have to be distracted as often by looking at the screen. You buy a 340 now for little more than 330...and you get a free update.

The 330 has voice also. I did buy my second one this morning from Wal-Mart for our other vehicle. Like others have said, you can't beat the price. We test drove a Jeep with one built in. We did not get that, but I don't think it would be any better then the 330. I would recommend it to anyone.
