I just bought our 20 year old the playstation 3 60GB. It is a Blu-Ray dvd player, internet ability and will play 90+ % of playstation 1 & 2 games also. To me this is the best system for the money. My local Circuitcity and (maybe all?) is offering a free game with these systems this week.
I'm Thomas-mohica's son. I'm 11 years old. We have been travelling for 10 months and I have been reading lots of books, playing cards and doing lots of outdoor hiking, biking and kayaking. I love the National Parks.
I don't think any electronic game system is good unless it is balanced with the real world-Only IMHO....
I asked my 21 year old son, who's the Senior in College and works full time / part time (when necessary) at Circuit City as the guy on the floor that helps you buy your computer and accessories. He said, for a 10 year old girl, the Wii is the best, if you can find one. Something that displays on the television, he had no recommendation. He suggested the hand held Nintendo DS.
I'm clueless what he's talking about. That's just his suggestion!
Good luck!

I'd get the WII. If your going to use it in a camper then it might be to much but the Wii gets them moving and is a lot of fun. I have 13 and 15 year old girls and they use the Wii alot more then the playstation or gamecube.
We're in the same situation. Kids have a game cube. Biggest advantage to it is more games for younger kids and with the gameboy adapter they can play there gameboy chips on the cube.
But DS is asking for a playstation 2. Stop in at gamestop and you'll find more games for PS2. JMO but can't see the cost of the latest generation.
Get the Wii, but if there is a lot of adults in the house he may not get to play it much.
The Wii will also play N64, and Game Cube games, and you can also download, and play older Nintendo games using the virtual console.
The nice thing about the Wii is grandma & grandpa can play it as easy as an 10 year old.
Call your local BestBuy every morning, as they get shipments in almost every week, but be warned they go fast, so be ready to head for the store. When I called they had 14 in stock, when I got there an hour later they had one left, and that one went home with me.
A Wii is a good choice for younger kids. Teens like it too. When selecting a game console consider the games that your child will like to play. They all appear to have some games that overlap in tile but then each brand has a segment that they target. The PS3 if you buy the right version can also play most of the older PS2 games. There are a ton of titles for this platform. Still, the Wii has some fun activity based titles that everyone should enjoy.
