Is #18 to the coast a good road for travel with a 37' 5er?
or
would I be better to take 221 & I5 to Salem & then 126 to Florence?
I have a couple of days to do this travel, starting out this Sunday & I want to avoid the I5 area in the south of Oregon.
Thanks EH!

Hwy 18 is fine. I'd take that over to the Coast and then enjoy a nice few days down 101 directly into Brookings.
Have a good trip.

We took 18 from Lincoln City to McMinnville and back last Sept to visit the museum and found it to be a very good road. Enjoy

Do you want the best or fastest route south?
Personally I prefer driving I5 south to hwy 38 and hit the coast at Reedsport. Hwy 18 is slow going and the traffic through Lincoln City can be a real night mare. I hate freeways too, but at least you get off before I5 gets hilly. Other choice is to go out of Eugene on 126 to the coast at Florence.
Just outside of Reedsport there is a large Elk viewing area if that floats your boat.
Depending on how far or fast you drive Reedsport to Brookings is about 3 hours. There is a really nice place at Brookings right on the ocean. As I remember it is either a city or county park.

If you haven't been to the coast before, go over on 18 and go south. There is a wealth of things to see and Oregon State Parks are the best. We like to just dawdle our way down the coast stopping along the way at most waysides. Check these forums or my posts for Oregon Coast highlights.

Take Hwy 18 to Hwy 101, Linclon City and go south. Traffic will not be a problem this time of year. Weekends on the coast will be busier but not at all like summertime. Enjoy the view.

We came down thw 101 from Astoria through No Cal. Great scenery and great state parks. We had no problems with a 31ft MH and toad.

Downtheroad, your signature says you're from "Tumbling Waters, WA". I've lived here all my life and I've never heard of the place. Where is it?
