I finally decided to buy a new truck after a long long long time of deliberating pros and cons.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone has a Megacab with the 6.7 and 6 spd auto? What kind of MPG should I expect and has anyone had any problems with the 6 spd auto?

Being a GM guy all my life this is a big change for me. The main reason is rear cab seating room for the kids. The Mega Cab seems to have more room than the GMC crew cab so the kids can get more comfortable on those long long trips out west.

Anyway any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Earl R.

Here is a page from a valuable Dodge/Cummins site. Unlike other brand's sites, negative remarks are not edited out by the moderators.

Just remember to double check the tow ratings for the Mega cab. It can be had as a dually, but that short bed makes for some interesting towing. Yes, I have a quad cab dually 6.7L. Gobs of power for towing. As with all the new motors do not expect as good a fuel economy as with the older motors. But I will have to admit that mine at 1200 miles got as good a mileage as my old Duramax it replaces, so i am not unhappy. You are going to get as many negative comments as positive ones, so be prepared to read a lot.

I have the new 6.7 Megacab 3500 DRW.

I have had no issues and pull a 38 foot 5'er that weighs about 15K.

I put Timbrens on it but it didnt really need it and rode fine stock.

Nothing but good things to say about it. Power is great and it is very stable.

I dont calculate mileage but the overhead computer says roughly 15 empty and 11 towing.

I only have 5K miles on it but so far it has exceeded expectations. Exhaust brake is amazing when pulling a heavy load.

I've got an '08 3500 SRW 4X4 MC 6.7. My last tank I hand calculated 13.5 which was all city driving empty. On the freeway I can get 20.5 or so according to the overhead with the cruise set at 68 mph. My truck only has 4500 miles on it but so far it has been 95% commuting/ running around town.

My TT is not that heavy at about 7500 lbs and I really don't notice a performance loss when towing. I haven't towed it far enough to get an accurate mpg when towing.

I need to take it in for the G30 recall, but overall I am very happy with the truck.

I think I love my Dodge 1998 1 ton dually... 25 miles to Imperial gallon on the highway, 20 in the city....13.4 towing on last trip. So thats about 20 to a US gal. highway. 16 city(US) 11 towing(US).. It has NO Catalitic Convertor, 4" pipe, opened filter box, 5 sp. manual tranny, and a 3.5 diff. I wouldn't buy a new truck. Never have. Let some other guy take the big depreciation cost. Thank you to those of you who buy new.....

Buy an 08 6.7. They seem to be having less probs and better millage than the 07.5 6.7's. The regen mode in the 07.5's gave some of these engines grief, but some report better fuel economy with a flash from the dealer.
I will agree with you on the sheer amount of volume in the rear... no shortage of room for the kids. I too was a GM man, But I'm really likin' this Dodge, and I don't see a GM in my sites now.

I picked up three tables from a furniture store on Wednesday. The loading dock guy looked at me funny when I asked him to put them in the cab and not in the bed! With the seat backs folded down you can carry a whole lot of cargo back there and keep it locked up and out of the weather.

Thanks Everyone.

I am considering the dually, I don't care for the looks of the new fender style though. Right now my TT has a 9500 GVWR so the Dodge won't be stressed, but I'm looking towards my next trailer which will be a 5'er. With that in mind I really should go dually.

The short bed was a real issue for me at first. I really wanted the longer wheel base and room for the gooseneck of a 5'er in the future. But I started looking at the inside room for traveling and that won the decision hands down. Gotta try to keep the kids somewhat happy/comfortable for a peaceful trip. Momma can get cranky if the kids are restless.

I prefer to buy new and keep my cars/trucks for 8-10 years. That way I know every detail of history no questions. BTW what is the G30 recall?

I'm glad to hear the positives here. I figured this was the best place to get info from guys that really pull loads at or more than I will.

You will be very happy you bought a 2008 Dodge Diesel. I have a 08 6spd auto with 15K on it. Not one problem yet. This truck is superb. it really shines during a heavy pull on the RV. When you get your truck be advised the several of the features will effect smooth operation of the truck. The exhaust brake will give a nuge during down shift and the tow/haul mode will remind you of a soldier at attention. These features are all good for towing.
