Its been awhile since I've overhauled an engine. Did some 283's and Ford flathead's way back when.....one thing that has my curiousity is
the comment about having the valve lifters held up while changing the camshaft. Is there really such a thing as that? You still have to remove the tappets, remove the push rods and get the lifters out don't you, or is there some magic tool now that can hold lifters up?
Can't be, say it isn't so...

BTW, camshafts only run backwards when you backing up right??? Ha Ha!

Any "roller" cam is pointless unless you're running at extremely HIGH RPM's. Same for gear drive timing gear sets.

RV engine are more likely to have "torque" cams that come on a lower RPM's.

http://www.hendrickmotorsports.com/tech_engine_vr360.asp

here is a link to a typical Hendrick Motorsports engine.... if it were even possible to obtain 12-15k rpms in a Nascar racing engine.... let alone sustain it..... then these guys probably could do it.... but no.... you may have "crewed" for "somebody".... but I doubt it was a Nascar team....

must have been Formula 1....... lmao

Then why did GM put a roller cam in my 7.4?

Ken:

some race team needs an engine tuner, one that appearantly knows how to turn 12-15 thousand rpms in a v8 STOCK car engine...

Superdave, I know this is old (2 years) but the specs show a redline of 9300 rpm. Quite a bit lower than your magical numbers.
