Anyone using one of these RV5 Extended King-Pin http://www.popuphitch.com/rv5.htm? I am looking for something to keep me from getting a slider hitch. Also, if using did it impact the warranty on the camper? TIA for the help.

I just put one on. Real happy, but I couldn't speak as to the camper warranty.

My take on extended pin boxes. They work OK...I guess. But you need to buy a new one with every 5'er you buy. Or take it off and install it on your new trailer. If it fits.

On this particular item it raises the trailer pin box about 2 inches. That would be a concern. And while it clamps to the pin. While it probable would be OK, it just does not seem to be all that "positive" to keep it in position. I just don't like that idea.

If you install this Pin extender, then have some type of frame failure -you will have a hassle to deal with. These days manufacturers void warranties for very simple things -thus forcing you to prove in an "engineering sense" that the modifications had no bearing on the failure. Extended warranty companies will also use this ploy....Magnason Ross Act (SP) does make it illegal to sidestep warranty for manufacturers dirctly when modifications are present but they can put the "burden of proof" on your shoulders .... which can be an indirect cost of your decision.

For me personally, the difference in purchase price between a Pin Extender or an auto slide hitch or a new slider base rail set (if already own 5er hitch) is to little to take the risk.... especially if all the potential costs are factored -direct and indirect.

I've used one for about two years, no problems. I changed it to use a Mor-ryde pin box, tho. When looking at all the differnt cushioned pin boxes, found a spec sheet from Trailair that states not to go beyond six inches in extension, so the added four inches should not be something that would cause a frame failure. I've always felt that the frame should be stronger, particularly it the pin box area.

Seems to me like it would put more stress on the pin box. I would check with the trailer manufacture as it may void the warranty on the frame.

I think a Mor-ryde, 5th airborne, or similar is probably the best solution because you replace everything from the pin-box down. You should also check with the manufacturer of your pin box to see if they have one - check through your dealer.

In my case I got a used RV5 for a real good deal. I have an older, used fiver so I didn't want to spend $800 for a 5th airborne, etc.

You might also try a 5th sidewinder. Those things change the pivot point to right under the pin-box.

My 5er came with the extended pin box.
I have 9-1/4" clearance and have never hit the truck while making a tight turn.

I have one installed. I had it welded on then lowered my hitch a extra few notches to make it ride where it used to. It works great for me.
