Desert Southwest for me is a must return trip, especially southern Utah. Start in the Grand Canyon and head up to Bryce, Arches, Zion, Canyon Lands. Just incredibly beautiful country.

Thank y'all (Tallyo, Ca Traveler, Pattie AM, and MI Director) for the outstanding information and feedback. Skipnchar, I do not recall saying that we or I were not fond of mountains. I just did not care for driving a motorhome across a mountain road that was only two lanes and apeared a snake was followed up and down for the roadway.
As for Florida I have truly seen it all even the Telephone booth Police department to the North. Key West, East and West coast where I have lived over the last 50 or so years. Do Not get me wrong, I love Florida and have enjoyed being here.
06 Winnebago, TOUR 36' W/3 sliders. My towing system is the "Unified Tow Brake" I'm old and slow and most always in the right lane.
While I will get out of the Coach often to hike about, I have always tried to make the drive as interesting as the destination.
For destinations close of at least on the East Coast look at Jekyll Island (JISP) – St. Simons Island – Hilton Head and Savanna/Charleston and many of the coastal towns (we usually stay in ORA Hilton Head) – in these areas you can usually arrive before the real tourist season and still enjoy the area. Then heading up the Coast look at Williamsburg – lots of history and the walking can be limited by restaurants stops for lunch or dinner. (American Heritage) then up to DC all the Monuments and Museums (Cherry Hill) heading back down the Blue ridge Parkway or at least the foothills and catch Charlottesville ( not sure of a CG as we have usually been there for sporting events and stayed in the stadium parking lot). High Point (High Point City Park on the Lake) Ashville/Biltmore ( we usually stay at ORA Lake Toxaway) then down towards Atlanta and the reservoirs – if they have filled back up by then – lots of areas all around these spots but the best advice is to just stay on the two lane roads and enjoy the countryside.
Hope this is of some help – now if you want to head out west that’s a whole new game and I can really get carried away.
BOL,
PERFECT! Especially colonial Williamsburg, it will take your breath away.

A long way from home for you, but consider Oregon sometime in your RV life.... lighthouses, covered bridges, spectacular coast line, desert and mountains...Crater Lake....very RV friendly state.
If you are American History buffs as you say, two of the most important battles of the Civil War were Gettysburg and Vicksburg. There are great campgrounds near by (Artillery Ridge or Drummer Boy in Gettysburg for example). They offer a self guided driving tour via CD or cassette in which you can use your toad. The tours stop at various points so that you can get out and walk around. Devils Den, for example, is one such place at Gettysburg. This way, you can see things and not have to hike for miles at a time.
Myrtle Beach is not far from Ft. Sumter so that would be another combination to consider.
If you do go to Vicksburg be sure to stop and see the wreck of the Cairo. Resurrected from the river bottom it's a great aside to the land battles of the Civil War.

We've only been RVing since 2005 and actually picked up our coach in WI -- many miles from our home. Our maiden voyage took us up around the UP of Michigan. Unfortunately we could not spend much time there so I would like to return someday. I really enjoyed our stay @ Traverse Bay RV Resort. It's actually in Acme, MI but close enough to all the popular things to do. Leland, Sleeping Bear Dunes and of course Traverse Bay. But in March or April, I suspect it might be chilly.
Another favorite spot for us was in Longs, SC (14 miles west of North Myrtle Beach). We actually visit here just for the RV park. Willow Tree RV Resort. It's peaceful and we love the lakefront sites the most. See some pics here The resort is in the country. Grocery store about 3 miles up the road and still close enough to Myrtle Beach if you want to go into town for shopping or dinner, etc.

If you like history, go to Colonial Williamsburg Virginia. There's a ton of history there and nearby Jamestown, and Yorktown. It's a place that you could easily navigate even with a cane. There are a number of good campgrounds in the area that have been reported many times on this forum. A good day trip from there would be to explre the plantations along the James River.
You have some thoughtful and practical suggestions. I would add: Four Paws Kingdom in Rutherfordton, NC; Biloxi and Bat St. Louis, La; San Antonio, Tx; Chewonki, Wiscasset, Me.; I travel with my animals in a 45'+H2.
Also liked Williamsburg, the canyons, Jackson Hole, Santa Fe/Albuquerque, Reno/Virginia City, Colorado Springs/Colorado City/Manitou Springs/Cripple Creek, and most of Oregon.
