Thought I'd post this here -- might help someone traveling thru the area.

South of Cottonwood on Hwy 260, turn onto Thousand Trails Road. Immediately turn left on the next road.....and drive out to the best piece of NF land I've seen. You'll have LARGE areas (one is about size of a football field) for camping and the road is not bad at all. From this area you'll have a view of the canyon.....it's beautiful! And you can stay up to 14 days....FREE

Also -- the Cottonwood Walmart is allowing RVs to stay in the parking lot --- I didn't talk to them...but have watched others park there. Doesn't look like they allow your jacks down or slides out....but would be good for an emergency.

Hope this helps

There are many places between Cottonwood and Sedona to boondock. Easy drive from any of these to a couple of very interesting indian ruins.
Just what canyon do you have a view of?

Also many places on 260 between Cottonwood and Camp Verde. Thousands of acres east of Camp Verde on side roads. There is a forest service on 260 about 8-9 miles of Camp verde. Also one a mile or so east of I-17 at the Sedona exit.

Thanks Dshultz50 for this information. We are often told of "many places off of some certain road", but your directions are very precise.

I've added your site to my "to go" map and will check it out if I ever get over that way.

Haven't made it past the divide yet............

HAH - beats me! We're at the end of the Thousand Trails road at the TT camp. We see the same canyon....and the Verde river runs along thru this canyon. I hadn't even thought of a name for the canyon and nothing we have says what the name is..!!!!!!
