I was in a hurry when I bought my pup so I just called my State Farm Agent to get basic coverage (very cheap) as a requirment for financing. Eventually, I want to go with GMAC since Good Sam offers a discount. Some things to look for: Full Replacement Coverage (RV's depreciate quickly), Personal belongings coverage for your stuff, Storage Coverage (suspends some of the coverage off-season to save money), Emergency Expense Allowance. Some also offer Campsite liability if someone gets hurt in your rented campsite.

As catvet mentioned.

Mine too is on my automobile policy, and in July a storm broke a branch off a tree and tossed it and it poked a hole in the roof of my camper. No problem, insurance worked with dealership (estimates/orders/etc) and all was well.

We just had the Comp and Collision added on our vehicle insurance policy. As long as your towing it it is covered under your liability policy. Though I suppose that if it were to roll out of the driveway on it's own and crash into a Mercedes things might get a bit dicy. The cost of adding on the trailer was I think under $50.00 for every 6 months.. I would assume as long as your happy with your car insurance you should be happy with their coverage of your trailer.

I have my PUP insured as a addendum to my auto policy for replacement value. The cost is fairly low. This is because the liability while driving is already built into your auto policy, so the insurance is mostly a comprehensive policy. Depending on the laws where you live, your homeowners policy should also provide some coverage, particularly liability and personal property theft while camping. If these policies are not enough to make you feel comfortable, you can get a one million dollar umbrella liability policy added to your homeowners for a reasonable cost.

Our's too is with our auto insurance. We have full coverage for it parked or in tow. With extra coverage for our camping gear. It was even suggested of us to take pic's of it, inside and out.

We have ours insured as an add-on to our auto policy with State Farm. My policy costs me around $75/year.

As a blanket statement that may be correct. However, my auto insurer said they would not insure a travel trailer. Just to be cautious, I went with Progressive Direct and pretty much got all the bells and whistles. What I found when I asked for quotes is the higher the cost of the trailer, the higher the premium. Progressive was, by far, the lowest I found. YMMV.

I don't insure my p/u-only paid $ 900 for it, and is covered when towing under the auto ins policy, and is parked in driveway when home, so I just roll the dice
