The mountains of N. Carolina are a beautiful place to escape the heat of summer.

How many southern RV'ers head north during the summer?

I head north to Colorado from south central Florida every May and usually stay until after Christmas. By then I've had my fill of the beautiful snow and this retired person is ready to warm up.

We are transplanted Southerners (ya gotta go where the job is!) and are planning to move back south after retirement to be closer to family. I've told DW several times that they can find me in the North during the summer, as I have no desire to deal with the heat and humidity down south.

One of my favorite areas is the Pennsylvania Wilds in the northwest/central part of the state. Cooks Forest SP is a very nice area, and we've never been bothered by bugs anywhere we've camped across the northern part of the state. Maybe just lucky!

After 24 yrs of Az summers, we spent last july on the Oregon coast and I'm going back to workamp/volunteer next summer for sure. Now that I'm retired, there's no reason not to be a reverse snowbird.
Cheers

We've certainly seen lots of Texans in Atlantic Canada. About two years
ago, it seemed every second RV was from Texas... glad to have you join us
for some cool night air.

That's exactly what we called ourselves for about ten years. We got our MH out of the garage, packed it, hooked up the toad, drove out of our driveway in Fort Worth, TX., locked the gate, and went to MN. for up to 5 months in the summer. We made an occasional trip back to check on the house. Finally we decided that we didn't want to return to the house. So after 24 years we sold the house. Now we call ourselves "Fulltimers".

"Sunbirds" is what they are called. But if you think going to MN or those types of states, be ready for heat just like in TX. The best to go to is the CO "high country" or the WA, OR or the No.CA coast. Even they get hot sometimes.
Timing is everything!

The DW and I have lived here in Arizona for 15 years now. We like the fact that we have a family of bob cats living on our roof, javelina in the back yard, and rabits, quail and coyotes all over the place. BUT when the temp goes over 110 we head north. We have always called ourselves SUN BIRDS and enjoy the Northern Cal.,Oregon, Washington coastal areas for the June through September time period. One of these days we may go to the north east for the summer but we have made so many good friends in the north west its hard to change.

Remembet two things:
1. I carry a gun, because a cop is too heavy.
2. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.
