In process of purchasing 2008 Phaeton and have two questions.

1. You can now order Spartan Chassis instead of Freightliner on 40 ft. Comes standard on 42 ft. I understand Spartan is supposidy the Cadillac of chassis but is this a prototope chassis just for Tiffin and will be only mfg. so many. Does anyone have more info on this and should I just go the safe route with the Freightliner. 2. CCC where can I check this, understand this could be a problem. with some 40 footers and weight distribution.

nathan . . .

I'll just say, we've driven several vehicles with Spartan chassis' "recently." We didn't drive one that had a better ride. We much preferred what we have (XC) over any of the Spartans we drove. We were considering the Fleetwood American line of products and "kicking around" trading. We have put "trade considerations" "on the shelf" until we figure out what is going on with the chassis' on American's. (assuming there wasn't some kind of "issue" with the one's we drove)

I definitely didn't prefer the Spartan ride over what we had for pure "ride."

I have had both. They both work. I do not have a preference.

Travel Supreme(all models) and Newmar(most of their models) use Spartan chassis's. I have never owned a Freightliner chassis, but find it interesting that most of the upgrades in chassis by Mfg. are Spartan vs. the std. Freightliner when given a choice, i.e. I never saw a Mfg. that offered Spartan as std. offer a Freightliner as an option? JMO

Just curious as to where you heard a Spartan Chassis option was available on the '08 40' Phaeton? Are you sure you're not referring to the Allegro Bus? Tiffin did build a few '40 Phaetons on the Spartan Chassis, but currently does not offer the option. This according to Tiffin. I don't believe they have a stock supply of Spartan Chassis for the '40 Phaeton. I was told "maybe" in the 2009 model year.

I heard that Tiffin is going to build their own chassis.

It's already available on the Allegro Bus, the PowerGlide chassis.

I talked to a regional Tiffin sales rep last week who said there were 13 Phaetons built on the Spartan due to a temporary shortage of Freightliner chassis with the 360 Cummins. Other motors where available from Freightliner but Tiffin wanted to stick with the 360 Cummins so they bought the Spartans on a temp basis. He said there are no plans in the near future to build any more Phaetons on the Spartan.
