As we each look at 5th wheel campers in any given price category we tend to put high and low priorities on different things. My (and I'm sure most men's) highest priorities are in and around the structure of the unit itself. Problem with that is, we don't really know which type of construction is best (many of think we do though), and even if we do, it's hard to really know because it's so well covered up, sides, roof, even the sealed bottom.
When I've compared as best I can, the Jayco Designer to others in the same price range, (based on 30+ years in commercial aviation maintenance, quality assurance and engineering and a few hard knocks) I've found the Designer to be better made (my opinion) than the high end big sellers from Keystone and as good as anything out there.
Again that's only my opinion. I feel the same way with my 2005 Dodge truck (compared to other trucks of the same year) my BMW motorcycle, Kubota tractor, Senseo coffee maker and Aperion Audio home speakers. Certainly there are those fans of GM/Ford, Harley Davidson, John Deere, Mr. Coffee and Bose who would find my opinions completely silly and without merit. They are, however, my opinions and as such the Designer will be most likely be my next 5th wheel.

I am very happy with my Designer. It's a 2005 34RLTS & I pull it with my Duramax 2500HD SRW. I have had very few problems & Jayco has taken care of the ones I have had. They recently replaced the decals on the fiver that had shrunken even though the Deisgner is almost a year out of warranty. All manufacturers have quality problems. I have over 25,000 miles on the Designer. Had a Prowler for about a year before the Designer. Put 5,000 miles on the Prowler & had many more problems with workmanship on it.

We were looking at Jayco but have leaned more toward Heartland Big Horn or Big Country. Have not decided for sure yet but will need a fulltime 5er. Will do our best to stay out of cold weather.lol

The Designer is an excellent 5er, however the smallest model has a DRY pin weight of 2500. Make that a loaded PW and add the weights of the hitch, passengers, etc, and you are well over the cargo capacity of any 3/4 or srw one ton truck. They can all "pull" fine, but cannot handle the weight in the truck.

They are looking at a model with a lower pin weight. However I did think it was odd that the smaller ones had heavier weights.

We have a 2007 Designer 34RLQS and love it. As posted earlier there are many good units out there, but after much research we decided the Designer was the best for us. I liked the standard king in all Designers and Jayco's 2 year warranty. We also have a great dealer with outstanding service dept. I tow with a F-250 PSD with Tow Command and feel very comfortable. Traveled 10,000 miles since June including the Rockies and Canadian Rockies. Regardless of what unit you buy I would strongly suggest you get the MorRyde pin box and suspension (or similar unit). Should be the first option on any fiver IMO.

Ditto on the MorRyde Suspension and Pin Box. I would also recommend the dual pane windows ...
Put over 1500 miles on our new 35RLTS the first week we owned it ... VERY comfortable pulling with our Silverado 2500HD Diesel/Allison combo. I did add SuperSprings to the truck ... back end drops right around 2" when hooked up ...
We love the Jayco ... but DID have a hard time deciding between the Big Horn and the Designer. What sold us was the new floorplan for 2008 ... 35RLTS.
Whatever you decide ... enjoy !!!

We really like ours. After researching many others, this unit surpassed them all in the same price range.
We were excited about our 35CLQS but they don't offer that in '08
