You may download the Lippert slide-out service manual here.

Blanca Colorado? Anywhere near Blanca Peak? Holy mackeral you are out in the boonies for sure. Cold, windy, snowy . . . while you are under there check out the condition of your Lippert frame rails. They are having MAJOR issues right now with them cracking and shearing off within the I beams. Look at the area where you are shackled to the axles.

Thanks Ray, I think those are the same as what I already posted a link to.

Amber, yes, I am in the shadow of Blanca Peak. Was only going to spend two days here photographing the dunes. What do you mean exactly by frame rails? The part with the teeth, or the part the teeth are mounted to?

As far as putting the motor back on and trying again, still nothing. And I cannot retract manually either. I am going to remove the actuator tomorrow, not sure how I can tell if it is broken, hopefully it will be obvious, then call Lippert Monday and hopefully get one overnighted to me. Maybe they'll water ski in Alaska too this winter, right?

Well, I figured out what the problem was. Even though the motor turned I suspected the gearing might be bad, so I removed the motor again and opened the gear box. The photo shows it all, shredded plastic gear parts and about 1/4 of the teeth sheared off the main wheel. Why they made the gear plastic is beyond me. Now hopefully Lippert can overnight a new one to me tomorrow!

As far as why this happened, pretty sure the ice stuck to the bottom of everything caused the slide to stick enough that this happened. Lesson learned, driving over snow covered roads, look underneath before opening slides. Now why didn't it work manually? It is very possible that it was working, but I just didn't crank it enough to make it move, I really don't know.

Thanks to those of you that offered help.

Oh, you are gonna' have fun tomorrow!! I have read here on the Forum that Lippert will not sell you just the gear. They will only sell you the entire assembly with the motor.

Steve, well, I kinda figured that, if it's less than $200 I'll be happy as long as they can overnight it to me.

I doubt that it will be...does the gear box have anyones name on it??? When mine stripped I was able to get it directly from the manufacturer for $15...it was made by Baker Mfg in Mich. I'm surprised the "out drive' was able to turn with that mess...Good Luck....Brian

Brian, neither the gear box nor the motor has any names on it. The motor has a serial number, the voltage, the ratio (18 to 1) and the max amps. I don't know if Lippert will tell me who makes the gear box, will find out tomorrow I guess.

Good luck! I own property out there in San Luis valley. 5 acres just waiting to be discovered as a gold mine (You too can own property in Colorado . . .or so went the brochure)

Anyway, when I spoke of rails I was thinking of the chassis of the whole unit. My office mate has a unit on a Lippert frame and the I beams are just falling apart. Looks like the metal was contaminated or something. It is literally falling apart. The metal is just separating. Several big name manufacturers are based on these frames. I'm hoping the pull of these companies can assist in getting them to make it right. Don't know if a welding machine overheated metal and made it brittle or what . . .but it is amazing to see in person.

Part is on its way. Brian, you were right, Lippert only sells the whole assembly, and I really don't have time to track down the gear maker, etc. I did try a search for Baker in Michigan, but I found nothing. If I was parked at home and not on the road, I would have more time for research, etc.

With any luck, I'll be able to get to all my Christmas destinations, just a week behind.
