You know, I got to thinkin. Those of you who know me know that's dangerous. This is only a thought, I thought I'd throw it out there.

All of us travel. Duh, that's why we have campers. Who all would be interested in putting there names on a list of "Members Welcome". A list of members that welcomes other members to stay the night in their driveway when they're on the road.

Of course, opting-in would be completely optional. My thought here is that a map is done up with only screen names. When a member is planning on being in the area, they IM the other member for the address and see if that member is available to welcome guests that night. That way, the address is not out in the public and no unexpected surprises happen.

Just a thought.

Edited 10-28-08---new additions added

Since I've gotten so many responses, I figured I'd put a link to the spreadsheet file right at the start of the thread so it's easier to find. I'll try and update the file every month or so with additions.

If you'd like to join in, I'd ask that when sending me an addition, if you could include your town, state, and services (power-15,20,30a, water, and dump). I'll look up the lat/long and add it. No specific addresses will be located, just towns, that way your exact home is not out there for everyone to see.

***right click on this link, and hit "Save Target As..."
rvnet_3.xls

The direct link is:
http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/2002042_r6ie8/rvnet_3.xls

Info that is blank means I just didn't get that info from that member. Some folks are missing the town they are in, or what they may have for services. If your town is missing, I just put a lat/long in the middle of the state.

Additions are welcome and encouraged!

On our last trip I started putting where we were at the moment under my signature at the end of my posts...

You'd be surprised at the number of contacts we had.

we visited quite a few people at their invitation... just like we did with you.

It wasn't always possible... but always great when it was.

Almost all American Legion Posts and VFW Posts have hook ups for traveling members. Also Moose Lodges have them and I am sure other organizations do so also. If the membership here would just recommend that to the organizations they belong to that do not have facilities it would be a help to those traveling where there are no close by campgrounds. Of course there are those who wouldn't even be willing to kick over 10 to 20 bucks a night to offset some of the expenses so maybe better off to let it go.

I think what Boatty call is suggesting is that truck camper people from the forum have a chance to meet each other... And there is a bond between the truck camper owners that may not exist on other forums.

We are self contained and don't need hook-ups. Our footprint is small compared to yours and we don't take up our friends whole driveway.

So for us it is never about money or campground availability... and this post has nothing to do with organizations campgrounds.

I'd go for this.

A large level concrete parking spot, with a 30 amp hookup awaits!

A lot clubs do this & distribute a catalogue with a list of people and what they are willing to do, from a driveway to park in, to emergency help.

I'm in a national hot rod organization and we do that. It especially helps if you break down and need a part or a place to repair your ride. You check out the directory and can call a person where you are.

Our place is open both in So. Calif and NW Washington State.

I'd be interested in this. I have setup some hookups on Rural land I own in South Louisiana. It would have to be outside of Hunting Season.

I have a 390 acre tract in St Helena parish that has Power water and sewer and would be a cool place for a TC to stop in.

I have a 80 acre tract in Tangipahoa Parish thats cool all Long leaf pines with Power and water.

I just got the 911 addresses( necessary to get power) and the permits to put power on 30, 160 and 83 acre tracts in tangipahoa that would be power only whenever i get around to setting the poles.

I have a pole set on a 118 acre tract with a well but the new Health dept Guy doesnt want to let me hook power even for self contained if i dont put a sewer plant down. I'll get that sorted out this next year.

If it is just a place to boondock well heck i have many scattered small tracts 20-53 acres that arent leased for hunting that people could stay on.
