Is it possible for the freezer portion of the fridge to work and not the fridge itself? My freezer gets ICE cold, but the fridge itself doesn't seem to get cold....
It is a dometic 1999 model

First question, have you used a thermometer to check? Because there isn't a fan to stir the air around, it may not seem like it is cold enough. Here are a couple of hints.
Inside the refrigerator in the back on the right side of the fins you will see a plastic clip with a wire. This is the thermister. Slide it up to the top of the fin. This should help some. Other remedies are to use a 'fridge fan' inside to help move the air around.

Some things that can cause the problem are having too much stuff placed in the freezer blocking the vents allowing cold air into the bottom or the fridge. Another is ice build up in the freezer compartment.

Another is if your door switch isn't working and the light stays on warming the fridge. Just the heat from the light can really effect the unit.

Like said, Ice cold = 32F. First thing is to see that the freezer is cooling to about 0 or 10 degrees F. Make sure the freezer is working before trouble shooting the fridge. If not, we can go from there.

Actually, in most RV fridges, if not all (because I don't know the specs for the newer side x side RV refers), there are no vents that allow cold air to migrate from the freezer. There is a separate freezer plate which is usually either the bottom of the freezer or the freezer shelf itself that is actually the cooling unit tubing, and the evaporator fins inside the refer section that is mounted to another section of the cooling unit.

Your description is a classic sign of a ammonia blockage in the small cooling unit tubes between the freezer and refer plates.

The cooling unit is defective but possibly could be repaired by "burping" (backflushing) the refer/cooling unit.

You are right on , on all points.... I noticed a year before my unit failed, the fridge side did not seem to be cooling as well as should, then next year AMONIA SMELL , sounds like maybe yours is on the way south.
