I was leaving Pismo yesterday and was a little late getting thru the intersection and got pulled over. Got a ticket with violation # 15250(a) Class A DL Trailer 17k GVWR. I had been following threads about it, but just haven't gotten around to it. The CHP officer said they they are nailing EVERYONE with this that they can. Although they can't technically pull you over because they "think" you don't have one, but they can come up with a good reason if they really wanted to pull you over. He let me slide on the red light, but wrote me up for no plate on my trailer.... Class A...here I come....~Brad

Good thing you had a Dually to pull your trailer, and was not using a S-10 blazer like this one.

Hey don't give the guy a hard time. If you followed all threads you would know he is awaiting is "roof" mounted 5th wheel hitch. Then he will be able to either pull it or push it. I think the one in clip was mounted on a Suburban.

Bummer!

Glad you got outta one ticket. I've kinda thought that if I ever got pulled over for one thing maybe I could get out of the thing I was getting pulled over for and would get tagged with the out-of-class fix-it ticket.

Sounds like you didn't get any moving violations, just fix-it tickets? So, no points on your record and no traffic school?

If you don't mind, share with us how much this kind of ticket is going to cost us.

NO plate on your trailer. Running a red light. And no CDL. Must not be that big of a deal then? Good for you.

Yes..I got really lucky. I have a CDL, just not the right one. I got pulled over for being stupid. The red light was marginal...but gave him "The reason" to pull me over. We had the plate in the camper...just lagged on putting it on, so he just gave me a fix it ticket....I'm not really sure what the penalty will be. The officer never mentioned any cost and I didn't ask. He was actually really cool for a CHP. He talked to me for a while (since I was actually interested). I told him I had been planning on getting the Class A, but just hadn't done it yet. He told me could have impounded my entire rig....Damn...Lucky. He also proceeded to tell me that "Technically" ANY vehicle with a GVWR of 10k is required to have a "Motor Carrier" endorsement and have numbers on the side of the truck...He said he doesn't really focus on that...but could if he wanted to ...... I asked him how many people have Class A license that just pull 15k + haulers....he said...Pretty much no one does.....and that is why the CHP is cracking down HARD on this. If I run into any problems along the way to getting legal, I'll let you all know. ~Brad

badbrad60,
Since you already have CDL what's invloved in getting your A in Ca?
Do you have to do a driving test? And if so can you use your 5'er?
Used to be able to use pick and 5'er here in Ontario to get A but I believe you now have to drive a big rig (and rightlfully so) to get your A.
Thanks for the heads up and good luck!

Sorry to change the subjest.

Hey DuneMe what size tires, rims, and backspacing did you use on your GMC? I'm in the process of doing the same thing, but haven't bought the wheels & tires yet and did you have to trim anything? Thanks.

I was coming home today from Spangler Hills area, saw a CHP with a 3 axel TH pulled over near Red Mountain. The officer was in an all blue uniform, I believe they are the commercial officers??

Don't want to speculate, but I will.

MOST of the rigs I saw today were doung 65+, good enough to pull you over and check your license, heck I was doing 65 trying to keep up with 3 other rigs in our group.

I was in Pismo last week and am not sure if I am over or not.

The law says a Class C license can drive up to a 40 foot 5'er and/or up to 15K pounds. I attached the CA DMV link in case I am missing something.

I have a Fuzion 362 which is 38 feet. Not sure where my weight stickers are as I just got it.

Two questions:

Am I legal, and where do they put the weight sticker?
