The responses will be interesting as we are planning on being there in the spring or early summer.

River's End CG
Skidaway Island State Park
I have never personally stayed at either but have heard great things about both on the forum and through other reviews.

I am from Savannah and we go to Skidaway when we can't go out of town. Thet don't have full hook-ups but it is a nice campground

You might try the Rivers End on Tybee Island. Make reservations ahead.
There are some campgrounds in smaller towns around Savannah, but right now I don't have the info with me. Might try a map, pick a town & google in the name & ask if they have campgrounds. We found it much easier to stay a few miles away & drive into Savannah. Be sure you have the correct directions to get to Tybee & don't get lost in Savannah with a 5th wheel like we did. The Streets are narrow & congested.

We went to Savannah for Christmas and stayed at Hardeeville-Thomas RV Park, about 8-10 miles north of downtown Savannah. A good "no frills" park, friendly
owners and very easy access to downtown Savannah, although it is located in SC.
If you prefer the water scene, then you might enjoy Tybee Island more. Have fun. We previously stayed at KOA in Richmond, GA, but it was quite a distance to drive into Savannah.

We chose Skidaway rather than Tybee Beach, last September. We were pleased. I would imagine July Heat might make the beach idea better. Skidaway had lots of almost Tropical vegetation, that might be buggy in mid-Summer.
We had hoped to have lunch at Paula Deen's, but the lines discouraged us. We really enjoyed the Trolley Ride Tour.
Have Fun.

Skidaway is one of our favorite weekend places. Great campground and about a 10-15 minute ride to downtown Savannah.
The trick to The Lady & Sons Rest is to get the buffet to go and either have a picnic in one of the town squares or just take it back to the campground. Great food no wait.

Thanks for the responses, we had been looking at river's end and I think that might be where we go. Skidaway would be okay, but I really would like to have full hookups. I've been to Savannah before and stayed in a B&B, if anyone is interested, it is a great way to see savannah, then same goes for St. Augustine - these two cities are very similar.

Take lots of mosquito repellant. Both of those parks can be real buggy in the summer. I think Rivers End has better access to the beach, it's only a couple of blocks away. Take your bikes, Tybee has a couple of nice bike trails. Eat at AJ's Dockside and The Oyster House (not on Tybee).
