My wife is a travel nurse and we are thinking about purchasing an RV for her traveling. The agenices pay a monthly stipend, but our concern is the cost of staying at nice campgrounds. Anyone have any advice on the average discounted rates for long term (13 week) stays?

Anywhere between $400 and 700 a month most generally for full hookups in a nice place.

Ok...
Here goes somewhat of a novice at full timing but we have had 30 some experience at camping ideas and answers. I am a 30 some year experience OR nurse and we are looking at full timing with a fill in nursing.
I think, from what I have gathered, that the agencies will pay your campsite fees and what else, I don't know.
I am also interested in the replies in this area. Good luck!

Thanks Mandalay Parr, blucrabbie the travel nursing agencies will either furnish an apartment or pay a monthly lodging stipend, usually at least $1,000 a month which is tax free. We are trying to figure out if she will come out ahead in buying an RV and paying the campground rent. So far it's looking pretty good!

She'll get an hourly wage and a housing subsidy which isn't taxed - see if she can get as much of the hourly put into the subsidy to avoid paying a lot of taxes. The subsidy will more than cover the cost of the site for the assignment.

Rocknrun, we have had a few nurses who have worked at the regional hospital here (Arkansas), who have stayed at the RV park, which is only $300 per month. Only downfall is, no direct sewer, you have to "tote" it to the dump station located in the middle of the park.

Compare that to the $650-750 per month apartment costs that are near the hospital, plus utility costs, and the rv park is a great deal. Park is about 15 minutes away from the hospital.

Other towns may not have a park so close, or will have higher costs. it all depends upon where your job takes you. If you get to pick from various cities from which you will work, it seems that you could do research (like RVParkReviews.com) and find a city that fits your needs.

I just this week spoke to a travel nurse agency to scope it out, and after discussing monthly campground costs in the area I was interested in (Minnesota, $500/month max), she said they'd go $800/month housing stipend.

Barbilou, you might want to shop a few more travel nurse agencies. From what my wife tells me, $800 a month is kind of on the low side for a stipend.

As a travel nursing recruiter, I can tell you that $800-1400 is about the range for housing stipends. Feel free to PM me if I can help you with any other information.
