I would like to know if anyone has used any one of the current tax software programs. I have moved since last tax season and my Tax Preparer of 12 years is now too far for me to travel to. I realy don't want to have to get aquainted with another one if I dont have to. If you have used one, can you elaberate a little on your experience and were you satisfied with your return compared to past returns. Was the software worth the money and are upgrades from year to year free.
Thank you very much

Matt

I've used TurboTax for many years and never had the IRS question anything. They offer both federal and state(optional). I purchase both every year (yes, you have to buy each year but State and Federal is about $40 and its deductible). Pretty simple to use - just answer the questions and it puts the numbers where they belong. Likely the same questions your tax preparer has asked you every year. Nice thing about using it from year to year - it retrieves your answers from the previous year, so if nothing changes, you don't have to type it all in again. If you get someplace where you don't have the information handy, you can save the program and come back when you have the answer.

I, too, have been very pleased with TurboTax. I've used it for close to 15 years now for both our taxes and my Mom's. There are several versions available, depending on the complexity of your return (for example, if there are businesses involved), and as Jim Shoe said, it's pretty straightforward. You'll have the option of filing electronically after completing the return.

We have used Turbo Tax for many years. The very first year we bought a house togethere, we did our taxes with Turbo Tax and then went and had them done by a professional, not H & R Block. The figures were the same.

We don't have anything out of the oridinary and it works fine for us. Unless you have a lot of unusual dedections or "stuff" in your life, TT should work fine. Of course a good friend is an accountant and constantly tells me I should not trust the program.

Also my mother has had her taxed done by the same person for many year also. That person retired so I offered to do them for her. I did them in TT and then compared them to her tax person's forms. Again, the figures were the same and this was just last year. I trust TT for my needs.

Does it ask you for the price you paid for the program and then insert in the proper deductable place on the form?

We have been using Tax Act for the past 6 years and been very happy with it. It can be purchased on line and down loaded. Cost under $20. and can include your state tax(if you have one). If you use it the next year it will "roll-over" personal info etc.

We use Turbo Tax. Good thing about it, it will import all your financials and even do cost basis for you. Saves a lot of data entry. Has to be the Premier edition to do this. We switched from Tax Cut to Turbo for this reason. Both of them are good.
