Not sure how far away Myrtle Beach is, but we ate at the Dead Dog Saloon for lunch and it was reasonable and you can bring your dog! Great place, live entertainment (bands) at dinnertime. Outdoor dining also on the water. Crabbing is great fun, go to Walmart to buy traps, etc. Sonic is another great place to eat. Drive-up style, waitress comes to the car. Kids got a big kick out of that, fast food, but good and reasonable. The beach entertained the kids most days for all day with boogie boarding. Have fun!

Barefoot landing is fun to walk around, lots to look at and you only have to spend $$ if you you want to. They have many specialty shops, Mini Golf, Movie Theaters, Henna tattoos and the list goes on!
Broadway on the beach is just about the same.

Mini Golf and Go karts are a hit for my 2 boys.
Nothing beats a day at the beach its all free, pack a cooler.

I have driven through Willow Tree before, its nice and all but a good drive to anything, I would recommend staying on the beach if you can, you can walk back and forth to the camper and not have to drag everything out all at once.

Cherry Grove beach is as nice as they come.. Closest to you at Willow Tree RV CG in Longs, SC..
This beach would be easy to get too and a 15 min drive on a good day..
If the crowd is coming in or out make that 3/4 hr.
You are around 10-15 miles from any "FUN" use the SC 31 highway to get to where you want go except Cherry Grove. This runs parallel along the coast line and US 17.. Carries you from right around Longs all the way to almost Georgetown, SC. its all 65mph but a quick stretch around US501 exit.
This road is much less traveled and you can get to all the major "FUN" places.
You are several month out on your trip call or email Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce get yourself some good info from them and coupons too.

I spent the 4th at Willowtree last year. It was a great time.

For beaches Cherry Grove and then go North as desired. The further south the more crowed and difficulty parking. Or jump on 31 South and go to Huntington beach SP. This had a wonderful beach and not the least bit crowed. It also has rest rooms etc.

My daughters were 15 and 20. They always enjoy Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach. Variety of shops and restaurants. I found the restaurants to be a bit pricey though. Again use 31 and exit at the appropriate exit.

Calabash NC. is a short drive north. This has the major fishing fleet there. There are both fishing and sight seeing charters available and in all price ranges.

We loved are time at Willowtree. It had a great pool and hot tub. It is also the roomiest CG I have seen. We rented a golfcart ($$$$) and my youngest was able to drive it as long as I was with her. They have a trail that goes around the lake that is paved and has benches and tables scattered around. Fun for walking and biking.

Inside the office there is a large rack that has brochures for all the area attractions. I gathered all that appealed to us and used my cell phone to call and confirm prices. This way I was never surprised. I also asked the people working there their opinions. I was able to find some local restaurants at affordable prices based on their help and my families cravings.

If planning to eat dinner out try to go before 4pm. With the coupons in the booklets you can save 4 or 5 dollars per person. They also have discounts for some of the attractions if you go at non peak hours.

Ask at the desk regarding firework displays. They had a sheet listing the major ones. We did not attend any as one of our dogs is psycho with fireworks and thunderstorms.

You will have a great time!

I second Welfarewagon's post...WT is beautiful, but it seemed to cater more to full-timers and not children so much. We also found the employees to be somewhat "Barney Fifish" with their rules...not that you want to be in a rowdy CG, but they just seemed a little unreasonable in dealing with our camping club while we were there. I would try to go to one of the CG's on the south end of the beach that has several pools, arcades, and putt-putt on property that would be much cheaper than going out to do these things.

Broadway and Barefoot (as previously mentioned) are great. We like Myrtle Waves waterpark, and the NASCAR Speedpark is fun for kids. If you make it to Calabash try the Seafood Hut. It used to be some of the best fresh seafood around. It is very reasonable, but go early. In fact, that time of year go everywhere early.

If you are going to do a show with your kids, I would recommend the Legends show. The others are really good, too; but they run a little long to keep kids interested.

Try Googling the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce and see if you can find information on discount tickets for various attractions. Often you can find coupons for $ off of mini golf, for example. Most, if not all, of the attractions in a tourist town like Myrtle Beach have a website. You can check out ahead of time how much admission would be for your family and based on cost and interest you can plan an itinerary. My kids know that when we go on vacation they won't be able to do everything they would like to do because we're not the National Bank of Mom and Dad, so we choose wisely based on our budget and interests.

You might want to take in a Myrtle Beach Pelicans game... They are a single A farm team for Atlanta. Tickets are reasonable and they generally have a great fireworks display... If you choose to do this, you should purchase your tickets early as they will sell out fast.

If you choose to go fishing, MB State park has a fishing pier and Huntington has the Jetty. The Jetty is about a mile beach walk from the north beach parking area. The nature walk in Huntington is also fun and very educational... Costs for a state park visit is $5.00 for adults... I'm not too sure as to what it costs for children... Someone at your campground might have a park pass which would enable you and your family to visit the park at no cost...

Murrells Inlet (my town) also has the 4th fireworks along the marshwalk... There are good eateries along the marsh, but they tend to be somewhat expensive. If you choose to eat there, I recommend Drunken Jack's as the food is good and the view is great..

enjoy,

corky
