I left Michigan on Sunday, Jan 20th, for Florida. I stopped in Lexington, Kentucket the first night. It was in the teens. I went to start my furnace with the Carrier remote. The furnace came on, cycled a few times to my setr temp. During the night, it did not come on. I tried to start it with the remote with no success. I replced the batteries, hit the reset button on the remote, hit the start button. It turned on the roof A/C. I hit the mode button until Igot the furnace mode. The furnase started. I went back to bed. A few hours later, The furnace was still running above the set temp. Needless to say, it was really warm in my motorhome. I hit the on/off button on the remote to stop the furnace. I had two electric heaters going at the same time as a way to help the furnase and to use less propane. The next night we stopped in Atlanta, Georgia. Again the temps were in the 20's to low teens. I tried to start my furnace and it would not start. I did notice a red blinking light in the roof A/C around the thermostat area. Has anybody had this failure? Does anybody know what this red bling light is telling me? I did have e repair man here in Georgia look at it. He found the furnace was ok. He suspects the thermostat is the issue. He did not have any parts for my Carrier remote system. He did give me a name of a repair tech I can conntact in Naples, Florida. Your input on this would be appreciated.
Well there is good news and bad news. The bad news is the carrier system we have (yes, I have it too) SUCKS, what it sucks is cold from outside the motor home (Not cold air, just cold) and this tricks the sensor into thinking it's like 40 inside when it's really 90.
The good news it that it is easy to fix, May sound strange but trust me it is EASY to fix and it really works You will need:
One fan
12 volt or 120 volt don't matter
Set the fan somewhere in the motor home other than a door or window Mine is a 12 volt fan (I have two) which I dug out of "Stock" (already owned) it has a spring clamp mount and is clamped over either the passenger seat or driver's seat (I have two) for furnace use I make sure it is blowing toward the little nub on the AC panel in the ceiling. This circulates enough room-temp air around the sensor to overcome the cold leaking in from outside and tames the stupid thing.
When I get the famous Round-Tuit I'm going to hook up a digital on the wall and fire that stupid carrier temp sensor.
But that ceiling mounted sensor is the problem and the fan is the solution
Plus, of course, putting new batteries in the remote way too often
Next problem: When you hit RESET it reverts to A/C as the request when you press ON
To fix this either cover the business end or get it to an area where it can't "See" the AC unit, turn it on .. press MODE through to Furnace (HEAT), then press OFF and point it at the target (A/C) and press ON again, it will come up furnace
