Was looking at a new '08 Duramax and they have the integrated brake controller. Obviously wired to the bumper hitch plug. Anybody ever pull a 5'er with one of these controllers, know who makes it for Chevy? Any info/input here or experiences? Thanks

Tony

Your going to like it. The GM & Ford IBC are every bit as good as the Brakesmart...and in one aspect...better. I have used the Brakesmart in a previous truck, so I can compare the two.

We have the integrated brake controller in our 07.5 and, after towing about 15,000 miles, some of which was mountains, believe it is a superior product. We had a Prodigy in our previous truck and liked the Prodigy in every respect, but the integrated controller is much better.

I have a 2007.5 (new body style) Chevy 3500 DRW DMax with the integrated brake controller. I tow a HEAVY 5ver (16K+), The integrated brake controller has worked flawlessly....in fact, it works better than the Prodigy I had in my previous vehicle. It only has one adjustment for signal strenght, so it's very easy to dial in. I use 8.0 out of 10. No jerky stops, no locking up. My only complaint is the placement of the controls (below and left of the steering column).

From what I've heard, the brake controller is OEM'd out from Tekonsha. I don't know how reliable that source is though.

FYI - the actual "guts" for the controller are placed in the frame near the left rear wheel. This presents a problem with some under the bed rails for 5th wheel hitches. I had to get a special bracket to move the controller away from the frame to install the rail kit for the Reese Signature Series hitch.

Hope that helps!

Has the previous problem with the GM IBC not working with hydraulic disc brakes on 5th wheels been corrected?

dutch man,

Almost no one's IBC works with electric over hydraulic brakes. '08 Fords have the same set of problems as the GM IBC. The fault, IMHO, is that the guys making the actuators have trouble keeping up with the changes in technology.

When 98%+ of the brake systems are electric, which type of system would you design a brake controller for? If the guys making actuators want to expand their market, they need to be working with vehicle manufactures to insure that their systems work.

Regarding IBC's and disc brakes: I use a Prodigy with my Carlisle actuator through a convertor box from Carlisle. I wonder if that will allow the IBC, too? I will be buying a new truck in 2009 and want something integrated. Thanks

My new HitchHiker will have a Dexter DX1600 actuator for the hyd disc brakes. I called Dexter today to ask about compatability with my '08 chevy IBC. One of their engineers told me that dexter was working on the problem but that there is a work-around that will work now.
The logic is that the chevy module is "looking" for a magnet and when it doesn't see one it shuts down. So, the fix is to get a trailer brake magnet (avail from most parts store for $20-30) and wire it in parallel with the blue and white wires at the actuator. This fools the module and it works ok.
So what does everyone think? The good news is that the chevy IBC can be disconnected if the fix doesn't work.

I think I'll wait until they fix the problem, don't care for the "work around".

I have the ITBC in my 08 and also think it beats my Prodigy hands down. I've only towed 800 miles so far but, do have a heavy 5ver. Get the ITBC.....its well worth the upgrade price.

Not sure who makes it.

Some people have said the ITBC doesn't work if you connect your trailer plug with the ignition on. I've always plugged my trailer in with the truck running and have never had a problem with it.
