This is interesting. Would you please post the source of your information?

Well, then make your stand......refuse to send photo's to these guys!!!!You go.

The people that ask for photo's might be trying to save you the trouble of driving to a place for an interview just to find out that they don't want to hire you cause your flowered hand painted hippy bus doesn't work in their 5 star rv resort.

You really don't come out better by tieing the hands of employers, they just want to get the perfect person for the job in the business they live from or at least earn their living from.

I have longer hair and a beard and have since I retired from the Air Force and have interviewed with companies that didn't hire me because of those things.....I didn't mind.....they have a standard.....why would I want to work for someone who doesn't want me.....especially now that I have retired again and am now about to travel and work.

Just remember...you can also ask for pictures of the campground owners, pics of the workampers "living" area...pics of workamper only areas. The campground website always shows the best of the best.I would like to see pics of what my living, working area looks like before i drive 500-700-1000 miles. It works both ways if you really have "a problem" with sending them your pictures.

They probably do not do in person interviews - so may argue they do this instead in order to "meet" the couple

Ngreen is right - they can easily be accused of discrimination. Any of the other reasons proposed for the picture don't hold water. Computer data bases of sex offenders are checked by name and birth date, not picture. Getting a picture is not a form of ID.

Very clearly -they are discriminating by asking for the picture. However that discrimination may be illegal (using race, ethnicity, age, etc.) or just inappropriate (are they nice looking? do they "look" responsible, etc.).

Problem is that if you don't send a picture - you probably would not be hired. Your call!

So, what would be gained by a lawsuit...or is that the point?

We don't ask for photo's when hiring. But, we do peak if they submit them with their application.......are we discriminating?

And an old topic I asked about a while ago.....ever tried to get a list of former workampers from a potential employer, to see what they are like as bosses? blood from a turnip comes to mind....

We include our picture with our writeup about our qualifications. I don't see a big deal about sending a picture. I would rather do that than travel for a face to face interview - which some resorts require.

Well we have seen the request for pictures on web sites, in fact it is on the work at koa web site. To send or not send is up to you. Just like some will go work at a CG for $7.00 and hour or 20 hours for a week for a site, we will not.

Not all discrimination is illegal. As wepampercampers pointed out he has long hair. If an employer does not want to hire someone with long hair they do not have to. They may not hire someone that would be a valuable employee, but it is still their right. They may not want to hire someone with a bunch of piercings. There are lot of legal reason that one can use to discriminate.
Now I realize some employers may want a picture so that they can discriminate in an area that is illegal, but I bet it would be hard to prove.

If I was hiring for a workamper I would want to know what they
looked like and their rv first. Plus the data bases for sex offenders
shows their pictures listed by state, county, etc. Plus I would do
a background history to make sure who I was hiring. You can never
be to sure these days of high crime and fraud.

All of my workamping jobs for the past 7 years and four employers have asked for a photo. These and I believe most (note that I said most) workamping jobs require face to face with the paying customer. All of my jobs have had stict guidelines on appearance because of the customer contact. No long hair over the ears, no facial hair, no visible piercings or tatoo's. None of this is illegal (or at least no one has won any lawsuits that I know of) in these situations. If you are dealing with an employee base that is mobile and not in your area, how can you do your legal screening without requiring that all candidates drive to your location? Last years job working around kids required that we sign a release so they could search the sex offender background database. If you did not want to sign the release, you didn't have to, you also did not get the job. The best way I know of ending all of this is to never apply for one of these jobs. I'm guessing that they will still find enough folks that are willing to send in a photo.
