Well, we've practically decided now on Starcraft 2407 - we do have one question though, and that is about slide outs. The 2407 has a slide out dinette but we were told today at an RV show that slide outs on tent trailers have a tendancy to leak - it would be good to hear from anyone who owns a tent trailer with a slide out as to ease of setting it up and whether it is water tight !!
Thanks

I don't swallow that. I had a pup for years. It did not have a slide, but the end and the slide on the Starcraft were attached to the roof the same way. We never had a leak. I've never heard of anyone having a leak in a pup, unless it was condensation (sweat) on the inside of the canvas (which happens). I've known several people who owned pups with slides, no one ever said anything about leaks.
If your information came from a dealer, he was probably down-playing the PUP to convince you to spend more for a TT. If it was just someone at the show, they were probably just blowing off.
Granted, there may be some people out there who have had problems with leaks. It happens in hard sided RVs too. But I think that this the exception, not the rule.
StarCraft manufactures very good pop-up campers. I think you'll be happy with it. Ours was a 1999 Starcraft 2106 Venture and really enjoyed it. After 5 years we got tired of breaking camp in the rain and then having to set-up again at home to dry everything out. And we wanted to camp early spring and late fall. It just wasn't warm enough when sleeping.
By the way, make sure you get one with a heater. You'll NOT regret it!

We had a 2001 Palomino Mustang with a slide. It was awesome, we had no leak issues....I do not understand why you would have any more if any leak issues then PUPs without a slide. I hope others would agree.

I'd have to wonder about any salesman who would lie about a leak problem in the product he's selling by telling you it leaked when it didn't. Seems it would be more likely to be the other way around. Good luck / Skip

I have a 2006 Starcraft 2409 with a slide, I have had no problems with leaking at all. I do see when the trailer is set up that there is a little space at the corners where the velcro attaches to the slides where the tent is tight and doesn't get all of the way into the corner. I have never ahd issues with bugs coming in or leaking as I said earlier. Also have not had problems with the trunk leaking either.

Was the salesman talking about the slide being IN and you were going down the road?
Or was he talking about the slide being OUT when you were camping?
It should not leak in either condition IN or OUT.
My friends slide has clamps that hold it against the rubber seal when the slide is IN.

The salesman who told us slide outs leaked was trying to sell us a trailer tent with no slide out so I'm hoping it was just salesman talk !!

We have had a Fleetwood GTE Niagara since 2004. No slideout leaks.
Where exactly is it supposed to leak from? The slide-out bunk ends have just as much chance of leaking. They don't leak either.

I have had the trailer set up in rain and snow with no problems, and also driven through some major rains as well. He was probably like our salesman when we bought our pup, he sold motorhomes and had NO clue about the PUPs or travel trailers. Glad We knew what we were looking at. You will be happy with the Starcraft. I have had mine since niw and have had no problems with it at all. The only time I have had to work on it was when the case for the front of the water pump cracked. That was my fault though, I decided to wait until we got home when winter camping to put antifreese in the lines.
