I've read that installing shocks on a TT will ease the ride of the trailer on rough roads. I can easily believe this but do they also transfer this to the truck towing it? I have in mind some of I-5 between Seattle and Tacoma. Some of the sections of concrete slab freeway there will make you wish you had a jockstrap on and a plastic teeth protector in your mouth. Anyone that has towed their trailer with no shocks and then had them installed I would appreciate hearing about your experiences.

I have a 24 foot Thor Wanderer. I tow it with a Chevy Tahoo SUV. I towed without shocks for several years. The trailer gave me a little push-pull at times over semi-rough concrete. I installed 4 Monroe shocks on the trailer about 18 months ago. Even the wife has noticed the difference in the ride. Now she says that ALL our trailers will have shocks.
I have used the Reese Dual Cam system for sway control even longer. This made quite a difference in the ride also. I do keep my Tahoe tires at maximum psi as stamped in the sidewall as well as the tires on the coach.

I installed them on my TT and found that because the trailer doesn't bounce and bob up and down, I don't feel it jerking the truck around as much. Adding shocks is a totally worth while mod IMO.

Hello,
I'm thinking of adding shocks to mine. How did you mount them and how did you size them?(length and ratio)
Thanks
Paul.

They do help with large dips, sway, and rough sections of concrete. They REALLY help off road. Go to the Monroe page and look for their trailer retrofit shocks. Then call your trailer manufacturer. I think you also get a safer ride and one that treats your trailer interior better.

I-5 fixed thru truck scales. Try I-90 just past stump lake it will knock about anything loose, if your stuck in the right lane. I had an Artic Fox it had shocks and it did seem to tow better, than the Wildcat I now have,it has torsion bar type axels.

I put Monroe gas magnums on a 5er about ten yrs ago before I knew they make retrofit kits. I used shocks for a pickup front end because they were short enough and I built and welded on the mounts. It made a world of difference, even in the truck. I recently replaced my worn out Maeco hydraulic shocks (made by Monroe) and used the Monroe RV gas magnums that were a direct replacement. Even tho the rv magnums aren't half the shock as those P/U shocks, they do just fine. It's worth every penny! Craig
