I sold my 2002 30' TT on craigslist. Took about 1 1/2 months. I had some concerns about the buyer, but it all worked out.

You may want to consider if you need the money for the PUP to buy the new trailer, or if you could own both for a while if it takes longer to sell.

Good Luck selling the old and enjoying the new!

I have 8-10 weeks before my travel trailer will arrive. The dealer is offering me 2400. I see them for sale online between 4000 and 5000. I'm wondering if I should try rvtrader.com or even EBay?

Dealer will give you $2400, you've seen them for sale for $4500. Tax benefit on the trade (where I live) would be $240. So trade-in value would be $2650.

You could list it for a quick sale at $4000 and accept $3650 as your bottom offer. It's a free thousand dollars.

If it's worth $1000 for the time end effort it takes to sell then go for it. If you have better things to do with your time for a grand then just trade it in.

Personally I'd try to sell it myself. A free thousand bucks or more is always nice.

I would say if you can get by without trading it, I would try to sell it. But if you need the space, and the trade in, then that is up to. As far as E BAy, I have sold on E Bay, but not A camper. I did sell one of my motorcycles on there. But now it seems more of A hassle, and they raised their prices.Although I have thought of selling A few more diecast pieces on there. Good Luck

I would try to sell myself using Craigs list and the local paper. You have 8-10 weeks the sell it. If you don't sell it by the time the new TT comes in just trade it in. Also in Missouri if you have a bill of sale for the trailer you sell you pay taxes on just the difference the same as if you traded it in. You might check in your state on this. Good luck, John

Did the dealer know you were trading it in at the time you negotiated the price on the new RV? If your going to sell it yourself, renegotiate with the dealer on the price of the new RV. I would almost bet money that he took that into account when he gave you the price for the new one, i.e. less discount.

Forget eBay. Too complicated and dealing with scammers just wears you out.

CRAIGSLIST is the best. I bought a 1996 FORD f150 in near new condition of 1/2 of the kelly blue book. The guy listed it on Sat. night and I bought it Sun afternoon, FOR CASH.

The internet is simple... you can check various items for value and you need to offer a deal.

So you'll probably have to settle for about 20% to 30% off fair market to sell it for cash on craigslist. HOWEVER, never sell to anyone except in person and for CASH. Forget about checks... they bounce.

Once someone drives away with your stuff, you can't take it back if they give you a bad check... CHECK OUT LOCAL LAWS.. it is ROBBERY or THEFT to repossess something without the help of the courts.

They won't do much to the bad check writer, but if you sell a trailer and the check bounces, then you go hook it up and take it home, YOU are guilty of GRAND THEFT.

They can find jail space for HONEST citizens.

THINK that everyone one you are dealing with on Craigslist is a crook and you can do ok.

That may seem extreme, but after you get a couple of bounced checks, you'll harden your attitude.

I sell trucks and other items, some for thousands of dollars. After you make the deal, if you are concerned about the person you're dealing with, take them to the bank and deposit THEIR cash from THEIR HAND, into your account and get a receipt and give them a notarized bill of sale. (good excuse for going to the bank)

ALWAYS PROTECT YOURSELF.

Bill in OKC. PS, I make a lot of money on Craigslist

Is it nice enough out that you can display it along a major highway with it set up? This has been the best way to sell the campers I have sold in the past..

Well, I put it on eBay yesterday. RVTrader.com saturday. This websites free classifieds on saturday and craigslist as well. On eBay, I have no bids, but 13 'watchers". This was explained to me as someone who can monitor the auction in their portal and post bids at the last minute.

I might try displaying it along a road. I bought it 2 years ago from a friend in town. I found out about it because I drove past it on the road and stopped to read the sign.

scribeworx, thanks for all the advice. I've sold cars online before and worked the same way. It pays to be overly cautious.

Thanks so much everyone! I'm still looking forward to getting my new Rockwood 8317 in 7-9 weeks.

I have sold 2 TTs myself rather than trading them in & came out far ahead. Word of mouth was the only method I used - sold the first one shortly after bringing the new one home, & sold the second one before the new one arrived.
