We have have one PUP year under our belts and now we are thinking of sizing up. We are a family of five and our little 8 foot box Flagstaff is a little (too) cozy.
I've been cruising Craigslist but haven't found anything promising yet. So yesterday we went to our one and only dealership in Tucson. They had an '07 Williamsburg (a trade-in) with AC, furnace, awning, shower/cassette, etc. All the usual stuff that the Williamsburg comes with standard. (No electric lift but electric brakes.) The dealer is asking $10,995. The NADA guide lists the low retail as $11, 250 and the average retail as $13,575. They just got this one in last week so it's not like they've had it sitting around for too long and as I mentioned, they are the only show in town. So, why does the price seem reasonable based on the NADA guide? Am I missing something about using NADA? Should I be aiming for a percentage under low retail? We would be paying cash with no trade. (We could trade in our Flagstaff but the value they quoted was only $2K and we think we can do better on Craigslist.)
Any advice? We really like the Williamsburg as it has the slideout dinette, the storage trunk, and best of all, a SHOWER!
Thank you in advance for any input on working on this with this dealership!
Here's where NADA gets tricky. The base price includes any STANDARD equipment and only dealer installed option need to be checked in the equipment list. From your description the the only real options are an awning and the A/C which give a price of $9,900 to $11,930.
The brakes, fridge, furnace, cassette toilet are all in the standard from the factory package and are included in the base price.
So base your offer on these prices.
JMHO I'd start out at $9500 and ask what he intends to throw in as freebies to sweeten the off season deal.
Remember your can always go up on your offer but you can't offer less than your starting offer.
Thanks for explaining how to correctly use NADA guides. I knew I must be missing something.
So, what might one ask for to "sweeten the deal"? The Williamsburg has pretty much everything we want plus AC. Maybe some bike rails or a maintenance agreement? Since it's a used PUP there isn't a warranty. Just wondering what others might ask their dealer for?
Things like water hoses, extra 30 amp extension cord, any electric wiring on the TV need form electric brakes & a good brake controller, chemical for the cassette toilet, or even a gift card for their store for items you find you'll need later. Your idea about roof racks is a good one.
Most anything can be asked for...and a thought came to mind, check the tires for a date and if it's any older than the camper they really will need replacing soon. So new tires, including a new spare is a good deal sweetener.

I'd offer $9,500, (out the door price - including tax, fees, and registration), all the stuff mike4947 mentioned, and add an AAR or Screen Room which ever you prefer, and a one year dealer warranty, (get it in writing).
A brand new 2008 Williamsburg, including a warranty, A/C, and AAR can be had for around $10,000, (even less if you are good at negotiating). They probably took the 2007 Williamsburg trailer as a trade-in and "gave" a very nominal credit towards the purchase of a new trailer. So, even at $9,500 they are making a very fair profit.
Going from an 8' box to a 12' box plus front storage, slide, and shower is going to add a whole lot of weight to be towed. Depending on your TV, a WDH, sway bar, and brake controller are likely required and things that the dealer can sweeten the deal with.
Thank you to everyone. I feel much smarter about this process already.
We're making sure our ducks are in a row before we go back. A couple of questions:
1. What is a WDH?
2. How about an AAR?
3. I think I need to research sway bars. Where's the best place to get info on those?
4. And now for the really crazy one...Do you go back to the dealership and say what? "We'd like to make on offer?" (Maybe I need to find a quick tutorial on how to negotiate a deal ).
Again, thank you for all the great info. I'll keep you posted. We're already planning a Yellowstone trip and we'd like larger accommodations..
Hi. I recently bought a Williamsburg. Mine was a new one...left over from the year before. I got it for 10K. Including a/c and the screen room the Fleetwood is offering this year on any purchases. At a minimum the dealer should be offering you the canopy room. Good luck
We went to look at a Williamsburg today at our area dealer and was told the 2008 with AC would be around $13,500. I'm reading that it should be around $10,000 for a new one. Where could I find one for that price? I live in Massachusetts.
