I NEED ADVICE..

I am trying to decide what type of camping vehicle to purchase for my 4 kids, wife and I. I was searching for a 25ft travel trailer that can be pulled by my 2005 sequoia (which is limited to 6500 gvwr). A friend is offering to sell me his 30ft Bounder motor home for around $18.5k. I can't decide what is better, since my camping experience only extends to camping out of my $60.00 tent.

What is your advice/preference on a 25' travel trailer vs a 30 ft motor home.

Both seem to have their +/-, so I look for your insight.

thanks.

From my experiance. I believe you will find, a TT has more living room, and sleeps more people than a MH. Plus. You don't have to tow a car to get around while camping. With those 4 children. Your goiing to sitesee, and You may want to think. Bunkhouse.

my advice is find out exactly how much you are willing to spend. Lets say your limit is 30,000$ which is alot. I would buy something that you know will suit your needs in about 2/3 yrs. If you have a bigger budget maybe you can afford to trade in the ol car and buy a used SUV for a reasonable price with a larger towing capacity. Figure out your maximum amount and work from there thats how i landed the deal on my motorhome. I have 3 kids and personally having the ability to walk around while the coaqch is in motion is the best perk.

My wife and I have been back and forth on this for 2 years. I wanted a Class A. She wanted a Class C or Travel Trailer. All this prior to niether of us ever going camping. When I was going through high dose chemo, I watched alot of High Def Discovery channel and decided that I wanted to see our country with DW and the kids. Started dreaming big while looking at Class A's. My brother has a nice class A, but it made my wife seasick. She had to sit in the front and watch the road. (I think it was because we went on a day trip in it through rolling hills of West VA and my brother drives like a nut).

We talked to lots of people and thought that we would need to get something the DW would feel comfortable driving. Class A was out. (I work on my laptop while we drive long distances). Class C looked good. We looked around. Too many choices.

Then we decided to start off with a popup to make sure the kids liked camping (and that we did too). Went camping with some great friends who have been RVing for years. We loved it, and so did the kids!

One pro with a Class C is that the kids are not confined to regular car seats. They can sit at the table and play games/ watch movies, etc. The downside with a class C is that it's another motor to take care of. If ylou don't use it alot (especially in winter) parts deteriorate.

Now that we know that our kids love camping, we decided to go with a quad bunk travel trailer. As opposed to motorhomes, this travel trailer gives the kids their own bedroom, while providing available bedding for other guests such as a grandmother or two. Much more room. AND, we can take the Yukon off for day trips while leaving the trailer at the campground.

Lots to conisder and I'm not really sure that there are any wrong decisions. Just different potential paths. Think about it carefully, but most importantly, have fun and enjoy your family.

Well i would be willing to bet that any choice you make will have pros and cons. We started with a rear kitchen 32 ft Springdale. But with 2 kids it was not right. The kids sprawled out in the kit, then we where stuck in our BR and the Bath. We switched to a quad bunk, but have yet to take it out. Class A are nice, but like mentioned, the extra motor maintenance, and the extra tires are too much for me now. Maybe in a few years when the kids are gone. But for using an RV 4 or 5 weeks out of the year, I just can't see it. Maybe it fit you better. And also the Class A has a generator, and they need to be run in order to keep them working. I guees the major thing that limits most is money.
