We stayed at ST.Mary's KOA a few years ago. We rate it high. It is rustic, gravel, but level. Definitely not desolate, but East Glacier is more rugged and in my mind for scenic than West Glacier. Your a short distance from the park entrance. The lodge has an excellent restaurant. College students from around the country serve as staff during the short tourist season. A good place to eat and have some excellent conversations. If you can take a day trip north to Waterton, on the Canadian side of the park. Spectacular. The road to the Sun drive is also a must see. If your without toad, the red buses travel regularly through and around the park. They are a good way to see the scenes. Your going to love it. Happy Trails.

if I have a 31 foot Class C, would I be able to ride along the Going to the Sun Highway?

We've stayed at St Mary KOA twice, primarily because of its location. Johnson's RV park in St Mary is also good, but somewhat tighter for big rigs. Also, it's on top of the hill, there can be hard winds at times. I prefer the St Mary side, rather that the west side, because it is more convenient to Many Glacier Valley, Two Medicine Valley and Waterton Lakes NP in Canada.

Does St Mary town have food stores or any places to visit with family?ie. Restaurant, ice cream shop gift shop etc.?

The length limit on Going To The Sun Road is 21 feet, if I recall correctly. You would not want to drive it in a motor home. There is shuttle bus service, plus the old "Red Jammers" that you stay with throughout.

There are no grocery stores in St Mary, but you can pick up small items at the convenience store. There are a couple restaurants, the best is probably the one in the lodge.

Five days to cover 3000 miles would be too fast for me. Averaging 600 miles a day in a motor home is tough.

Stan we will be driving a 17 foot van/motorhome. I think it may be easier to drive 500 or 600 miles in the van than a large rig. Iam thinking it will take us 6 days.I will just see how tired I am . My niece that is going with me dosen't drive yet so it is all on me.See is the map reader and finds where we eat next out of the next exit book.

I would stay on the west side and if you like KOA then they have the best one on that side of Glacier

We are traveling to Glacier N.P. in Montana this July 3rd. Planned on ST. Mary's KOA instead of West Glacier KOA. Are there any RVers that can comment on this. We have a Class C and would like to spend time seeing and photographing Wild life and short Hikes with the kids. How is St. Mary's campground? Any input would be great. thanks
Is it a desolate area which it appears to be?

Rob

We stayed at Johnson's in St Mary several years ago. The owners were great people. We will go back to Glacier, and stay at Johnson's again. They do not have a pool. Great part of Glacier Park.
