We are currently Florida snowbirds. I am just wondering if other states have winter snowbirds.. such as Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana?? I know that some people enjoy Texas, but that's alittle further away and with fuel prices going up FAST... I was thinking of maybe staying in Alabama...near Mobile, or Southern, GA. What are the average temps in that area?? Some of you may live in those areas... would you recommend YOUR area to winter snowbirds??? Florida is getting VERY expensive. To find a decent campground, it's about $3,000.00 for 6 months now!! Our campground/resort has increased it's rate $950.00 in just 4 years.. plus the fuel charges are way up!!
Looking for good suggestions!!
Thanks,

You can go to www.weather.com, type in any city in the U.S. and see the monthly averages. IMHO even Tallahassee is too far north for some realy good snowbirding ie. 70 degrees in January.

We spent parts of our past two winters in southern Georgia and Alabama, and enjoyed it a lot. It's somewhat cooler, but still not as bad as up north. Here are the average temperatures by state. Just click on the state, and then find the city you're interested in and click on it. We have spoken with a lot of people who snowbird north of Florida, and I think it's becomming more common since Florida RV parks are raising their rates like they are.
We moved from NC to SE Florida last year -- before our move we spent 1 month (Dec) @ Willow Tree RV Resort in Longs, SC. About 14 miles west of North Mytle Beach. Average winter temps in the 50s, but we had some beautiful warm sunny days. We got a deal on the site for 1 month, but I understand they give a larger discount for those who want to stay 3 to 6 months. You'll have to call to get the longer term rates. Perhaps not as far South as you'd like to be, but something to consider trying - if not for 6 months at least for a visit on your way south.
This was our view of the lake from the back of our site.

They have a few cottages available for rent should you have non-rv guests.
This is site 16 we stayed here in Spring of 2006.
The view out our door from site 16.
Couple pics of the pathway which goes around the lake. Fabulous place to take a walk or ride your bike.
Their site has an interactive map to see pics of every campsite.

I know there are a lot in S. Texas. However that is a long way for you to go. I wanted to post a say hello to a fellow brother I'm IAFF 3599. I've got 8 years till the DW and I join the snowbirding. Its hard for us to call it that living in N. Texas. We are going to call it "Winter Camping". Good luck in what ever you find. QT2

Its nice to see fellow IAFF family on the forum. I'm currently a Lieutenant having a great career, in the greatest job on the planet. I do look forward to retirement so the DW and I can travel a little more. Although we have no complaints we have made 19 trips in the last 22mo. That FD work week is awesome. One of My BC's ret. 2 years ago and moved to the Texas coast and started a Red Fish guide service and says there are a lot of snowbirds there. I hope you fine a place to snowbird next year. When do you head home every year?
We head home in Mid April... IF the weather looks good!! Up in Maine, you never know what April will be like. With all of the snow this year, I bet we'll have lots of flooding when it starts melting!!
Rich was very active in the union during his career. He was President of his local for over 10 years. He also assisted many communities in establishing their local!! He attended many, many conventions all over the U.S. and Canada.
We still display the IAFF local union sticker on all of our vehicles and the 5th wheel!! He was close friends with many of the IAFF union leaders during his tenure!!
Thank you for all of the nice responses and the beautiful pictures!!
Wow.. I could easily picture myself sitting by that beautiful lake!!
I think it would be nice a little further North... but DH is afraid it may be too cold up there... We've had a mild winter here in Florida, but we've had some cold winters in the past.
Thanks again... I love viewing the websites of recommended campgrounds!!
