Just out of curiosity, how many people get their trailer inspected annually and what are the ramifications if you do not? I haven't had ours for a full year yet, but some people I talked to said that they've never gotten theirs inspected, although my dealership told me I had to.

What do they do with the inspection..it's not like there's in engine in the TT...also, any ideas on how much it costs (I know it varies from dealer to dealer, but just looking for some insight.

Thanks,

In the Lone Star State, you gotta have it inspected annually. It a law designed to ensure RVs are safe on the highways. Cost for my TT inspection is $12.50 as I recall. Basically what they are supposed to check are the lights, break away brakes, tires, etc. I get it done annually to comply with the law in case of accident or to eliminate any hassle from policeman whose behind in his ticket quota or just having a bad day. Happy Trails!!!

Let me guess? They have an annual inspection service for $129++. They take it in the back and: turn the water on and off, turn the lights on and off, turn the heater on and off, turn the air conditioner on and off, check the tires and then you write the check... This is after you have hooked it up towed it to them, left if for a week or two and then retrieved it.

The dealer says "you have to do this?"
We "inspect" our rig every time we use it.

Do you really want to know what I think about this? lol.

Here in Upstate NY, I think I paid about $12 (give or take a few, I really don't remember) for the inspection. They check the same things that gibson2403 listed.

I don't know how much the fine would be for not having a current sticker, but I figure it's gotta be more $$$ than the inspection. Having the inspection also give me a little peace of mind.

In PA you have to have it inspected once a year. It's not expensive and certainly gives me peace of mind to know I am doing everything I can to keep my family and other people on the road safe. I get it done at the dealer and have them do the touch up caulking on the roof at the same time, it works for me!

In NY I think it's $50 to $75 in fines & "surcharges" if your caught, no points though. I got mine inspected last fall before I put it away so I'm good to go in the spring. Items are brakes, lights, tires, hitch & safety chains, "excessive frame corrosion", & a few other things. If you keep up on normal maintenance you're OK.

After reading posts from others who actually know what they are talking about, I guess if my state required inspections than I would certainly get it inspected.

I reside in Pa. all though it is required to have an annual safety inspection I do not have it done. The reason is it cost $80.00 plus 1/2 tank of fuel. I do a safety check myself. I figure if I get nailed for no sticker I will play stupid and have a fifty fifty chance of a citation. If issued a citation it will still cost less money than having an inspection done. Plus I save two days towing it to the dealer and back. I never had my boat trailer inspected and have gotten away with it since 1989! I haven't had my travel trailer inspected since 2004 with no citation yet! Once your out of state you will not be receiving any fines for not being compliant with Pa's safety inspection! I feel $80.00 is out of site to check brakes, lights, suspension, hitch, chains, and frame. It should only take 1/2 hour tops!

I see your point but more than likely they will get you for every year you didn't have it inspected.

I'm not trying to scare anyone, but a while back a friend of mine was stopped with no inspection on his construction trailer. The officer had him drop the trailer on the side of the road & it was towed by the police wrecker to an impound yard. The guy had to have a dealer come & tow it in to be inspected. Cost him fines & towing fees.
Cost me $38.00 for inspection & only take about 2 hours of my time.
