a 15000 lb 5ers pin weight may put you over RAWR/tire capacities for a 3500 SRW truck. With a 3500 DRW truck you get more axle capacities and more GVWR for the heavy pin weight of those big 5ers/GNs.

I test drove Dodge mega dually and it rode way nicer than my truck in sig. I feel that I am at the limit of comfort for my truck and wish I had a dually even if mine is a daily driver. Go test drive them both.

I would go with the dually with that kind of weight, especially carrying the 2 motorcycles. I have the Chev dually and have had occassion to park it in a single car garage with a 9' door, it is tricky to get into, only 3" or so on either side for the mirrors to clear but not that big of a deal. So yes you can get it into a garage with a 9' by 7' door.

I am pretty sure you will be well over the 9900# GVWR of a SRW 1-ton. If you want to stay within Manufacturer's ratings I suspect you will need a dually.
Depends on how you look at safety margins and towing stability.
But first you need to figure the payload of your truck.
Add everything going into it to the hitch weight plus about 3000# of pin weight and see how close you get.
(I'm still intrigued as to how you weight the pin load of a fiver with a bathroom scale!!)

26K= a F350 PSD/SRW pulling a 20Klb rated goose neck trailer with 15K lbs on it. Trailer has really good brakes, have to be careful where you put the load for correct pin weight and the PSD has plenty of power to pull it without a chip. Not recommending you should do this with a big 5er as you cannot adjust the pin weight and most do not have good enough brakes.
I love it when someone cannot figure how to weigh more than 250lbs with a bathroom scale and so fast. It's called a lever or beam and pivot points. Make sure you block the wheels of the 5er in both directions as you let the pin/pole down on the beam between the scale and the pivot points.

Hi Guys:

Thanks for the advice and keep it coming. When I look at that big 40' Toy Hauler and just those two skinny tires on the end of the pickup it makes me nervous....LOL I am new to this game, so what do I know.

It says in the Chevy manual that my GCWR is 23,500 lbs. It also says maximum trailer weight for the 3500 HD, One Ton, Crew Cab, 4x4, DRW is 15,900 lbs. The SRW same specs is 14,600 lbs. I probably would be over that tow weight.

I want the 4X4 option because I live in Northeast PA and want to use the truck for hunting and heading into the mountains when not hooked up to the rig.

Thanks for all the advice, I am definitely leaning toward the dually so far. But I hate to keep the truck outside in our winters.

Regards... Jim P.

I'm real interested in how to get the "exact pin weight with a bathroom scale"
My fiver has a GVWR of 14900,it seem like even 10% of that would do that bathroom scale in....Am I missing something here?

I am not totally sure how to do this, but it is something like take a three foot board, put one end on the scale and prop up the other, put the trailer tounge on the board and do some math. I am sure someone will come along and explain this better.

This is the best picture I can do.
pin
lVl
-----------------------10' beam-------------------------------
A pivot pivot A
scale under pivot Blocks of wood to level beam
Subtract initial scale reading from final reading after putting pin weight on V and mulitply the difference by 9 =pin weight. I use 4' angle iron for my pivots and a 8' beam and a tape measure.
