Hi Guys:

Thanks for all the help. I will go with a dually. I don't want to take any unnecessary chances.

I was going to stay out of this one because the OP didn't already have a truck, and in stock configuration, a dually is what he really needs to handle that trailer effectively.

Then I read this quote: "I live in Northeast PA and want to use the truck for hunting and heading into the mountains when not hooked up to the rig."

That puts a different complexion on it. A dually makes a good hauler, but a dually, even a 4-wheel drive dually, is next to worthless off road or in truly adverse conditions. Sorry if that offends you dually drivers, but it's the truth when it's compared against a well equipped SRW. Also, a SRW can be modified to handle the weight of the trailer contemplated by the OP and do it as well as any stock, 1 ton dually. I have a much larger trailer than that contemplated by the OP and my SRW handles it with aplomb.

There are many threads on here in which I have participated and no one has yet convinced me that my SRW truck or any of its componentry is overloaded or that I need a dually and it's associated drawbacks in order to safely and effectively haul my trailer.

For a dual purpose rig, a modified SRW would better fit the OP's needs IMHO.
