Don`t know if this will make the forums or not, but here is what happened. I had a mishap an damaged the rear panel of my coach, insurance agent recommened that I take it to this repair shop in Ponca City Oklahoma for repairs. Well I did, bad mistake, first the fellow that owns an runs the business assured me that they could repair it an do a great job, wrong agin,after several months an on the phone time after time to check out if they where doing anything,or stopping by the shop to see if they where doing anything with the coach, it was always the same old story, sir we will have it ready in a few days, or we are waiting for the materials. Well to shortin this, they did a lousy job on my coach, the panel wasn`t put on correct, tail light panels have big gabs between coach an panels, running lights wheren`t hooked up, burnt out out the back-up camera. So anyone in that area needs work done on thier rig, for gosh shakes take it anywhere but Kinders Campers in Ponca City ok. unless you like to be lied to recieve poor workmanship done on your rig...........
Thanks for the info. There is a Forum on RV Repair Facilities and you, the person who had the work done, puts in the name, loc, etc of the work done and comments....sounds like this place could use the publicity. Ron
I have rental car coverage on my motorhome. Why? Because it is only about $15 for 6 months, and IF I have a covered repair, I go and rent a car until the insurance agent lights a fire under the repair shop to get it fixed (because it will cost the insurance company more to take longer for the repairs).
What happens now really depends on the circumstances of the loss and what state laws apply to you, and how good your insurance company is.
In California, the rights are with the informed citizen. Because the insurance company recommended the place, you can get the insurance company to make it right.
If you where involved in a collision with someone else who is at fault, then you can legally (in most states) rent a RV until yours is fixed because it is up to them to make it like it never happened. In other words the vehicle must be repaired to a condition like it was in before the collision. UNtil it is repaired, if you had a trip planned, and have no other RV to take, then they should rent a RV that is equal to yours, then you take your vacation, and when you come back the RV should be fixed.
I think that you need to have a much better repair place - this place seems a little over their heads with the type of repair that you required. Even if they could have done this repair 2 years ago, perhaps the top notch repair person quit? or something?
Yes you need to contact the insurance agent and tell them in writing what is wrong with the repairs, and that repair shop can not work on your RV anymore, that the insurance agents have the obligation to get it fixed right.
Another hint from someone that worked in a body shop. Don't accept the vehicle back until it is "Right". They parked his nearly new car under a tree when he went in to pick it up. He told "Them" to pull it out into the sunlight. He inspected all the seams to insure that they where in the right places, and knew he would not take the car home that day. The pait was two different colors. Yes both where brown, and of course they did not repait the entire car, but they used a similar color - the color applied at the factory, not the faded color that the car is now. After three more tries, they got the color right and he brought it home. In the meantime, he kept the rental car that the car dealer that damaged his car provided.
Insurance companies in some states can face trple damages for not treating their customers right. They entered into a contract to fix your RV if anything is damaged during the term on the contract. If they don't want to follow through on their contract, that is a breach of contract - thus they can award triple damages to the insured.
Just as if Burger King said $5.99 for the delux hambuger, and give you a dry hamburger without the lettuce, tomato and tell you to go away because your have your food. It is wrong for them to do that, why do we accept so much less from the insurace agents that we hire and they accept the contract to repair our vehicles to "As it was before" - then they do not do what they said they would do.
I would tell them that you plan on suing for loss of use of your RV at a certain rate. Perhaps your insurace contract says that you can not sue for loss of use, but you paid insurance for say 6 weeks when you could not even see your RV except over the fence at the repair place!
I know how you feel. My RV was in for a "Quick" repair under the factory warranty and was actually in the repair shop over 6 weeks. While I was making $600 payments, I would not use my RV. And Thankgiving was coming up and I needed it back soon!
