My daughter just informed me that she has to pay at least $700 a year for her 5th wheel registration...she lives in Cheyenne, Wyoming...I live in Wisconsin and our license fee is $82 per year on our 31 ft. motorhome...Why would it cost so much in Wyoming? What do other states charge for owning an RV?

The beatiful MONSTER that takes my wife and I anywhere we want to go...2005 Jayco granite ridge...Overhead entertainment center, slide out, and a snowmobile trailer that pulls 2 four wheelers in the summer and 2 snowmobiles in the winter..Life is great!

I'm thinking she's got bad information. Here's one thing I found in a search on the topic:
"Ultimately, the main difference between registering a motor home and a standard passenger vehicle is the annual cost. Many of the smaller RVs may fall into a weight category similar to a monster SUV. Thus, they require only the standard $15 yearly state tax. But some of the larger models will be judged on weight, and the more the vehicle weighs, the more the state charges. Fees can shoot all the way up to $60."

That's the state fee. Here's more...
"The annual registration is comprised of two fees:

"County fee: Computed based on the current estimated worth of the vehicle. Essentially, this is like a property tax. The fees go to assist local schools and government operations.

"The basic formula the counties use to determine the fee is: factory cost x depreciation factor x .03%. A few of the county Web sites have a nifty calculating tool where you can enter the year and price paid for your vehicle and receive a basic estimate of your upcoming registration fee.

"State fee: A general tax (usually $15 per passenger vehicle and $15 to $60 per truck) placed on all vehicles and sent directly to the coffers of the state government."

As I read it, the county fee on a $30,000 5th wheel would be no more than $9.

When I lived in WY I paid registration of the following on an 2001 Excel 5thwheel (List $ 65K) and a 2001 F350 truck (List $ 42K)

Excel F350
2001 $ 1000 $ 711
2002 $ 846 $ 581
2003 $ 600 $ 465
2004 $ 500 $ 393

I now live in AZ and they have similar costs The registration on a 2007 5thwheel (List $ 39K) was $ 585

Hope this helps

Idaho does the following:
Vehicle fees are $30-60 for motorhomes, $9.00 for travel trailers.
each vehicle must also pay a RV sticker fee which is as follows, $8.50 for the first 1,000 of value and $5.00 per 1,000 of additional value based on market value each year. So you would pay 37.50 for a $5,000 value TT, but about $560.00 a year for a 100,000 value class A. But of course they want to up the vehicle registration fees, so who knows what it will be in the future.

I don't think anyones dying statement ever contained the words "I wish I had spent more time in the office", so lets go somewhere!
